I think the term "follow-up" is used meaning it was his second feature film; his first full length feature was Knife in the Water.

less $27.99 (one free)
less $5 coupon code E7C4D9D
= $50.98 OR $16.99 each title before tax
+ bloody WA State tax of 9.5% $4.84
= $55.82/3 = $18.61 per title delivered

Pretty good deal - but still tempted to wait for the official B&N Criterion sale hopefully by June??
I ordered those same three just now. Your state sales tax is 9.5%? Here in Florida it's only 7% and we have to state payroll taxes either. Then again our public services are non-existant.

Speaking of Polanski I just watched Rosemary's Baby. Great film, has a lot of similar themes as Repulsion. I should really watch more of his films.

I watched Repulsion and I must say I didn't understand it at first. It wasn't until after it was over and I went online that I found out she
[Show spoiler]had a fear of men. I didn't get why she was having these bizarre visions and she randomly killed those men. Was she really getting raped or was that a nightmare? Or both?
It wasn't at all bad. It was excellent. It just made me think a lot.

I'm sorry that a filmmaker had the audacity to make you work to get something from art....

One of my favorite scenes in Repulsion is eerily similar to a series of close-ups of Mia Farrow as she walks down a busy New York street - they both perfectly establish a sense of almost claustrophobic isolation in the middle of a crowded city.

You should also check out The Tenant if you haven't already. It's very similar in style and mood and excellent in its own right.

On the topic of Polanski, I was wondering how many of you are un-nerved or think twice before buying something that's connected to Polanski*because of his past.*

Even if I am not a big fans of most of his movies, I can say I never had any problem with his "past" as you say it. I will watch some of them if I sort of encounter them. I would be interested in buying only one movie of his on Blu-ray and that is The Fearless Vampire Killers...I enjoy this movie

this I will never understand. compared with repulsion, the tenant, rosemarys baby, chinatown & bitter moon, "pianist" was sooo 08/15 holocaust drama and boring.

I do, as unfair as that may be. Granted, I'm not a big fan of his movies to begin with.

I'm def a fan of Brief Encounter and have the dvd, but it's nowhere near the top of my list of Criterions to be upgraded. Any Lean on blu is good though.

The next Melville should be Leon Morin.

Belmondo and Emanuelle Riva +Melville = awesome film.

Plus, it's not what one would expect from the director (or Belmondo who portrays a priest!) and would be a great surprise.
