That is true. I think that was mainly due to the fact that they were having to compete with Amazon.

Yeah, that's true. I'm also glad I got mine in the right time. Still no word on what's going on with Chungking Express.

So is anyone still waiting on orders from the B&N sale? I've had two cancelations (Mystery Train and Chungking Express), and I'm still waiting on the following:

Playtime (website says "Expected Ship Date: November 11th, 2010")
In the Realm of the Senses (November 15th)
Le Samourai (November 15th)
Science is Fiction (November 15th)
Days of Heaven (November 17th)
Walkabout (November 17th)

And these pre-orders which were expected to ship a few days ago:

Army of Shadows (January 11th)
Robinson Crusoe on Mars (January 11th)

I've sent emails to support but haven't had anything back. I live in Australia so I can't call the support phone number (well, I can, but I'm trying to avoid it), but it's getting pretty ****ing ridiculous now. How can something be "expecting to ship" two months ago?!

You're not alone there. Some people also had to wait a couple of months to get their orders. I'd say if you can call them, that's the best way to go. Contacting them via email usually just ends up with annoying canned responses.

From what I have read on the forum, B&N doesn't have the best customer service. They have been known (by various people) to be late in getting orders shipped.

It could be that your movies are already in route. Many people have gotten their movies before getting confirmation that their order(s) had even shipped.

Depending on where your order was shipped from, it could take longer than expected, given the recent bad weather in various states here.

Sorry for the stupid question, but where are these pictures? I couldn't find them on Criterion's Facebook page.

Doh! Thanks so much for the quick reply. I would like to see those on blu-ray, though.

I'm personally hoping for Drunken Angel or I guess any non-Samurai Kurosawa movie.

Yup, I only got my Seven Samurai a couple of days ago! Ordered it on November 6th.

Since CC is giving us Universal's Fear and Loathing, would it be far fetched to assume that we may eventually get CC BD releases of other Uni releases like Spartacus, Do the Right Thing, and the forthcoming Dazed & Confused?

Maybe just Dazed and Confused or Traffic, but I don't see them releasing Do the Right Thing or Spartacus.

It woul be great if they did, though.

Wait a couple of months??? Ouch!!! Did B&N drop the ball, they were usually quick in getting orders out. Granted, when I see will be shipped within two weeks, I got them within two weeks. But nothing like Deep Discount where they came three months later.

I actually asked one of the staff members months ago about this and yes..they do have an "in". But there were times even friends from the film festival circuit would know things months way in advance and it was usually because of

a) The person was responsible for the project in getting films or special features together

b) Friend of a graphic designer who worked on the covers

I'm on a David Fincher kick since watching Social Network. How is the Criterion Benjamin Button release? Worth the extra coin?

If you like the movie then sure. It's not as expensive as regular Criterion blu-rays anyway.

I wouldn't have minded them taking more of a break from Kurosawa but this is definitely the direction I would prefer - High and Low, Drunken Angel and Stray Dog would all be excellent choices.

I asked about Chungking at Barnes and Noble today and they said it is no longer available...another clue that it is in fact going out of print.

It is more a regular Paramount release with Criterion branding. Criterion said that it was a favor for Fincher, or something like that, if I remember correctly.

Another thing that is odd is, I ordered "Le Samorai" from Amazon right before Christmas. It was missing the booklet. I look on Amazon, and I am not the only one with that problem. They listed the DVD with the usual under review ...we are working to resolve this problem. Now, the disclaimer is gone and only available from third party sellers.

I emailed Jon @ Criterion today, to see if they can send me the booklet. I hope they can help me out on that.

Yeah, from the wording it does look like it'll be from the same master as the previous DVD. Which was from 2003 so is unlikely to look spectacular now. When there are so many deserving movies that are still not on Blu-ray, I'm not going to accept the same movie being released in completely different editions twice, and still not coming close to utilizing the full potential of Blu-ray. Shame, but we'll see how it turns out.
