Hopefully they have another by the time April rolls around.
I've got my pre-orders set for this month with a 10% criterion code.
Next month from borders with the 40% coupon from a whiles ago.
March's from Amazon.

But I have $50 gift certificate from Criterion that I'd love to combine with a discount code for April.

Where are the Criterion promotion codes found? I don't ever remember seeing such on their site.

Most likely. As said many times previously, Criterion would've said something if Chungking was going out of print.

I've always liked the Criterion releases but I just decided to get serious about adding some to my Blu Ray collection. I already had a few including Seven Samurai, the America Lost and Found Box Set, Yojimbo/Sanjuro, 8 1/2, Thin Red Line, Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Today, I went on a shopping spree across Ebay/Half.com/Amazon Community and got a lot of good stuff, in my opinion. I went ahead and got all of the OOP releases so that made it expensive quick even though I think I got OK deals on them. ($70 for Third Man shipped, $50 for Man who Fell to Earth shipped, and $28 shipped for Pierrot Le Fou). In addition, to that I was able to get the By Brakhage set and the Complete Monterey Pop Festival set for $40 each.

I also got Howards End, Revanche, Cronos, Night of the Hunter, 400 Blows, Days of Heaven, Last Year at Marienbad, Seventh Seal, Bottle Rocket, Paris, Texas, Darjeeling Limited, Walkabout, and Gimme Shelter for around $23 each shipped.

I'm pretty excited to start watching these and continue expanding my Criterion collection. Did I do pretty well? What of these should I dig into first? What other releases should I aim to get next (when my wallet recovers )?

You missed Modern Times, but man, that's a great start. You should maybe look to get the two Fuller films coming out on Tuesday.

Thanks for the recommendation on the Fuller stuff...I'll look into them next time.

Modern Times was actually one of the few I already had (forgot to mention it though). I also already had M, For All Mankind, Charade, The Last Emperor, The Magician, and Paths of Glory in addition to the other ones I listed earlier. I believe that is it (40 of the 76 currently available by my count -- counting the ones in the America set, Monterey set, and Yojimbo/Sanjuro seperately).

Just finished the film Festival Express, and thought it was wonderful. Given Criterion isn't shy of documentaries/music related releases, and this doesn't have any sort of blu ray plans, it would be awesome if this got a blu Criterion treatment sometime.

Just finished watching "Army of Shadows." Very strong transfer. It really showed during the night scenes. I enjoyed the movie. It is not the kind of movie for one who is looking for high action sequences. Slow and foreboding. If you enjoy a slow page turner of a movie, this fits the bill.

For those who don't watch such things, Carlos just won best mini-series on the Golden Globes.

The Social Network beat out the Fighter, the King's Speech, and Black Swan? Oh Golden Globes, you are disappointing. Let's hope those Oscars are a little better.

Sorry to disappoint, but The Social Network will win Best Picture at the Oscars. It is on a roll winning everything. I's a magnificent film, so I'm very happy for its success. I think it's the best of the bunch.

Does anyone seem to know why many new criterion releases are not available on blu ray on Netflix such as Seven Samurai, Night of the Hunter, BBS Hollywood films, Modern Times, Videodrome, etc...

I've also noticed alot of other catalogue titles finally coming to blu ray are also not available. Such as True Grit, Steamboat Bill Jr., Once Upon a Time in America, The Color Purpe, etc...

It's really starting to piss me off

This has been happening for many months, they've drastically cut back on their blu-ray selection. I cancelled my subscription because they barely add anything that I can't get at redbox. Netflix's plan seems to be to slowly phase out their mail-out service in favor of streaming.

I don't care much for either The King's Speech or The Social Network. But if I had to choose between the two I'd go with The Social Network. I'll probably get flamed for saying so but Toy Story 3 was better than any of the nominees IMO.

Sign up for Blockbuster...while they are still in business... I used them and never had problems getting Criterion blu rays or much of anything else on blu for that matter. AND they don't charge extra for blu-ray.
