I used to own around 75% of the br collection but with so many releases per month it's too difficult. Also, If I know I won't re-watch something or aren't interested in the film--- I don't buy it.

So far, they've been running July and November. The Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale has also been running during January and June.

You are the second person today that has recommended it to me. I just added it to my netflix queue. Anxious to see the film. Thanks!

Hey, I am still waiting for 4 items from the last B&N sale - Seven Samurai on blu, Antoine Doinel box, For All Mankind on blu and Shoot the Piano Player on DVD. The order was placed on 3 November!

I suspect that one item is holding up the remainder, but then they are all listed as "usually ships within 24 hours" on the web site. What I find strange is that these 4 items were part of an 8 item order, and the other 4 items were shipped in 3 separate parcels a long time ago. I can't imagine that all of the 4 remaining items are not in stock...

I have sent 2 emails asking if they can check it out for me, and after some days waiting, received useless canned replies. Not sure what to do next - as I am in Australia, phoning them would be expensive.

I am tempted to cancel the damn thing, but I would like to get the items at the sale prices.

I received Night of the Hunter on Blu as a Christmas gift. Unfortunately, on opening, I found that it was crushed to the point where one of the plastic disc trays was crushed and bits of loose plastic fell out. Fortunately, the discs are OK (I think). I sent an email to 'Jon Mulvaney' asking if it's possible to obtain a replacement box, ie. without book or discs. I offered to pay for it. I haven't had a reply in 2 weeks.

Does anyone know if Criterion could do this?

Yes, I would think Criterion would be able to replace just the case. If not, they might just send a complete replacement... discs and all. Although, like you mentioned, Criterion seems to be lagging a bit in the e-mail replies lately. Many people, including myself, seem to still be waiting for replies.

That's interesting. I have heard of them replacing cases and what not. Try again.

When I bought The Ice Storm, the sticker on the front that says, "director approved by..." then gives the director of the film didn't say Ang Lee as it should and instead said Terry Gilliam, which I thought was funny. I emailed a pic to Jon Mulvaney and a couple days later he replied back and said hilarious. I would try again.

OK, so I have a favor to ask. I would really like plastic cases for my copies of The 400 Blows and The Last Emperor. Criterion won't ship the replacements outside of the US, and I live in Canada. Would anybody be willing to help me out on this? For a reasonable price, of course. I just hae the paper cases.

I'm a big fan of The Sheltering Sky, though I don't know how it stacks up to the novel (one of the few novels I've procured based on curiosity about such), would love to see a blu-ray of that. (However, Warner probably will just sit on it forever, most likely.)

And one that seems to have disappeared from the radar is The Spider's Strategem, never quite made the transition to dvd (New Yorker seems to have had it out on VHS at one point; I saw it once back in the day on CBS Cable and vaguely recall liking it well enough).

Hope your theory of a Criterion Bertolucci box set pans out, or even just a single title for that matter.
I hope my theory pans out too. Well, the way I see it, Criterion already issued The Last Emperor and it would seem Bertolucci is right up the its alley in terms of some of the kinds of films it often releases: well made films that aren't necessarily big blockbusters but are masterpieces of art and storytelling. Some well known, some fairly obscure or not often exhibited or broadcast.

Also, the studio has a strong record of releasing films that can stand as symbols of the history of film as an artform and films that are indicative of historical trends in film. Some of Bertolucci's films can fall into that category, such as Before the Revolution, which was stylistically influenced by the new wave; or Last Tango in Paris which came during an era in which filmmakers were taking more risks and pushing bounds contentwise.

I just have this feeling that Criterion will issue a Bertolucci box set within the next year. And I'll be one happy viewer if that comes to pass.

Hi SD, I live in Toronto and they shipped the cases to me no questions asked at the US prices.

I have them all, and have everything pre-ordered through March.

However, with the amount of films they have been releasing, I haven't had the money to keep current with all MoC and StudioCanal releases.

The answer to your question lies on the first page of this thread in both the first and second posts. Unless you want to contact Criterion via phone and try to pay, replacement cases will involve you sending money through PayPal to Criterion.

It revolves around a "family" of sorts, some literally related, others just closely associated and is basically made up of random moments that make a collective beginning to end. The narrative is quite sparse and leaves the viewer to fill in a lot of the blanks, but that's the kinda stuff I'm drawn too.

I also finally watched "La Moustache". It had been in my queue for forever. It's about a man who has had a mustache for most of his life and on a whim shaves it off, but not only does no one notice, they begin telling him that he never had one to begin with. It starts really strong and is surprisingly tense for how little is going on, but I felt the ending seems a bit muddled. Still worth viewing if you find yourself interested. Both movies are streaming via Netflix
Added that to my instant queue capn'...thanks!

Seems Criterion only replies to emails concerning orders from their store. Any emails to JM or their general orders email address will not receive replies.

Another reason why the Facebooks menace needs to go away. . .

I had one title in that situation. They just cancelled it saying that it was out of stock when it clearly wasn't.

To anyone who purchased the $20 Amazon Gift Card yesterday for $10 (or$5 if you were lucky)...how does that work? I have not yet seen the amount charged to my card, nor have I received an email from them with any info on how to claim, or use, the GC...

Anyone ever use that site before to purchase "deals"?

Thanks!

I haven't checked my card, but I did get an email from them this morning saying that they will send the card in the next 24 hours. The first thing they sent me went into spam, so you might check there.
