Just because Amazon isn't selling something doesn't make it OOP. A simple google search (am i possessed by ccfixx? hehe) for The Leopard DVD shows that it's readily available from 20 different places, including Walmart and Best Buy. I can see why maybe something not being direct from Amazon could cause worry, but it could just be the simple fact they are out of stock. It's something that happens. As amazing and blessed as Amazon is (seriously, thanks Jeebus!), they're bound to run out of things from time to time. Or, as others including myself have noted, sometimes they pull things from direct selling if they've gotten complaints about discs/packaging/etc. And lastly, it doesn't make any sense for one version of a movie (DVD or BLU) to be OOP and the other readily available. If they lose a movie, they lose it, not just a format.

In conclusion, "Don't Panic."

The Criterion screencaps do look better thanks to the grain, although the absence of grain doesn't always equate to DNR(at least if Aliens is any indication). Plus the AE release does have the 5.1 track. I may just hang onto that one.

Any chance of the Samurai Trilogy getting a Blu upgrade? It could do with getting remastered

There's someone speculating it's OOP based on the "Amazon doesn't sell it so it must be OOP" list, someone who thinks Fox is anxious to put out another release of this (huh?) and someone who, logically, reasons that its either out of stock or a packaging issue. Sounds to me like our boards have more in common than just Criterion love. I can only hope that they link to us every once in a while to help "prove" things, too.

To clarify, I'm not trying to be an ass about this. I could care less if it's OOP. I own the blu so I got no worries. I just can't find a single legit thing to support this or Chungking being OOP, especially when Criterion emphatically typed "No!" about Chungking, and it's the same situation.

More-so.... I love when something like this goes OOS on Amazon, and some other sites, etc.... and then the flood-gates open with people rushing here to say "I think it might be out-of-print..... I found a place that has it on the shelf for $37.99 so I grabbed it! Do you think it's OOP?"

Well.... if you're that eager to grab it.... why not do so when it's released, or during a sale etc.... I think people want to own something that is OOP either for the "Rarity" (which is silly) or the fact that they think they can sell it for a lot of money a-la' the days of "Salo"

I guess "OOP" really means "Overwhelming-Obsession-to-Purchase"

So true. I think it's mostly resellers who are so eager about things being OOP. Like you said, if they're really interested in Chungking Express, which I think is an excellent film, why not buy it before it actually goes out of print?

Hey guys, I know some of you don't purchase DVD but the upcoming Criterion release of the Eclipse Series #25 - "Basil Dearden's London Underground" is fantastic!

A wonderful set and it was great to see the context of how Dearden covered hot, controversial topics in the UK at that the time.

As Cassavetes had "Shadows" in 1959 showcasing interracial relationships and Black women who look white, Dearden had "Sapphire" which was in response to the 1958 Notting Hill race riots in which a woman is found dead. Was it because she revealed herself to be not white but a half Black, half white woman?

"The League of Gentlemen" is also interesting as the US had "Ocean's Eleven" in 1960 feat. former WW2 soldiers planning a heist. Dearden's story features the deviants of WW2 who have not been able to fit in society after WW2 and are crooked or deviants in some way.

"Victim" is a very interesting story as homosexuality was a crime in the UK and it showcased how many gays were blackmailed in order to keep their "outlawed lifestyle" a secret.

And the final film "All Night Long" in which Dearden returns to focus on an interracial relationship with a White woman and a Black man ("Sapphire" was about a White man dating a half Black/half white woman who looked white) and a man who will do anything to destroy that relationship.

Anyway, I'll step down from my soapbox for now but I hope those of you who are looking for British cinema will check out this wonderful upcoming Eclipse Series release from Criterion!

I am excited about the box set. I still own the Home Vision release of Victim on DVD. I would like to see Criterion release a Eclipse series set on BLU-RAY sometime. Just a straight HD scan/ transfer even if the print isn't the best. Most eclipse releases on DVD look really good print wise.

I still purchase the eclipse DVD sets though.. I may have to wait a few weeks before grabbing this one Feb 1st is a big release date with a few Best Buy exclusives like Heavy Metal, Out of Sight (Just a month before the original release date listed) and a bunch of other films.

This and Silent Naruse are two of my most anticipated targets for the next B&N sale!

Beta, since I mentioned this yesterday, and like to give you more things to do, can we see if we can get someone to update the thread below. I don't think people mind who does it, as long as it is accurate. Will lead to less discussions like the one we have been having for days now. May also help people make a little money to get newer titles, as they go through their collections and sell away the ones they don't want on ebay or whatever. Should be stickied too, IMO.

Titan added the last title that was requested in the thread..... I don't see a reason why he wouldn't continue to update it, it's just that people quit sending requests

I'd post up the "Updates" in that thread, or PM them to him directly.... if he decides he no longer wants to keep it current, then I'll be more than happy to add it to the "to-do" list.

I ordered a replacement case a couple of months ago. They were on backorder. I just received an email telling me it's shipped. You know, just in case anyone was interested.

I have the blu as well. I'm more worried about Attacking Defenses With The Shotgun Quarterback Trap being OOP

Beta, the problem with the updates from users is exactly what is going on with Chungking. I assume users sent titles to him that were not OOP and it was getting to be confusing. For it to be effective, 1 person needs to take ownership of it that has valid information on any title that is OOP.

EDIT- FORGET IT BETA, SOMEONE RENAMED THE THREAD. I POSTED IT BELOW. LESS WORK FOR YOU...

It's still the best thing Criterion had announced for this year so far.
