Greek mentioned "Paths of Glory" with Kirk Douglas. Very good WWI movie, albeit actual battle scenes represent a small part of the movie. The transfer is very good, in my opinion.

If you enjoy Film Noir, I highly recommend "M" with Peter Lorre. In my opinion, it is his best work. This is another film with excellent pq and aq for its time. In my opinion, these two movies are ones that you can watch time and time again, and never get tired of.

If you are a fan of Charlie Chaplin, "Modern Times" is another movie I highly recommend.

Wow. Can't beat those prices. If you see any other copies of "Sid and Nancy," I am highly interested. "Spinal Tap" as well.

I wasn't trying to be a dick to you there, or call you stupid. I was saying I didn't want him to confuse you in picking that movie up, because I loathe it. Besides, I already gave you the suggestion for Paths of Glory, so I've been helping you out.

Here are the steps I take when trying to decide if I should watch a film, or not. They may also work for you and other people.
  1. Read a brief synopsis of a film and/or seek out the film's trailer for watching.

That's it. It's that easy! I know myself well enough, more so than any other person on an internet forum would know me, that I know what I'll want to watch or purchase with my money. I hope it works out for you as well as it does for me.

With Facebook you get too many "friends" who post too often and which you have no common interests.

The end result is, I rarely use Facebook anymore. Mostly, I just check-in every month or so and see who changed their avatar and check if one or two of my friends might have posted a new picture or two.
Hopefully very soon. When Myspace was running numbers I said it was lame and others said I needed to get with "web 2.0". The same fate will hit facebooks. It's only a matter of time before this narcissism is wiped out.

It's most troubling because Criterion no longer answers direct emails but they will answer Facebooks questions.

Twitter is actually useful for media and some substantial celebrities (although for the common man it really has no use--- no one cares what Joe College had for breakfast).

I don't really care what a celebrity had for breakfast either for that matter. Twitter is not really useful either just like Facebook.

I know this isn't a Criterion question per se, but has anyone ever seen Zabriskie Point by Antonioni?

I watched it the other night after years of searching for it (had to re-start my Netflix account as a free trial), finally got it in the mail on Friday.

I did like it a lot, although I had heard some negative things about it.

Another short (58 min.) film I was able to find on Netflix, The Committee, is also something I have been searching for. I hear this is a "head trip" film, a la Head, but more psychological, in a way. I heard snippets of dialogue on some Pink Floyd bootleg with their original background music, and what I heard was intriguing. I know nothing else of the film, really.

Has anyone seen either of these?

I think it's unfair to really consider them the same thing. Twitter has its uses, but it's a very different tool than Facebook. I think because both are labeled as "social media" it's easy to assume they kind of exist for the same purpose.

Twitter isn't a replacement for Facebook and I certainly don't think everyone needs it. Most people probably would use it just to talk about breakfast. But it is a valid tool in the right places.

Twitter is good for finding codes to claim passes for free advance film screenings.

Well let me say I am just not into the "let's find out what the celebrity is doing now" type of person. I watch their movies and my obession stop there. I don't need to know what they are doing right now, what they are planning to do tomorrow or their political alliance, that they want to save a tree somewhere.....whatever it might be, I don't really care.

I can see why it's a good tool for celebrities, so they can keep the interest in them high, they need this stuff. I can see why it's a stupid tool for Joe Everyday telling us what he will be doing tonight. We don't care Joe, not now and not tomorrow.

I should just re-phrase by saying Twitter is just not important for me at all in anyway shape or form.

Neither am I, and I don't use it for that. But I agree! Just because something is a useful tool for my theatre, doesn't mean it would be useful for you. I just wanted to point out that it can be used for more than celebrity stalking and food reports.

Cheers!

I rented The Committee from Netflix a couple years ago. It had a cool performance by Arthur Brown in it, but I found it uninteresting otherwise.

Looks like Shock Corridor is $24.99 on Amazon at the moment. If Naked Kiss goes to that price point also, I'll pick both up.

But I need to ask: Are they a good blind buy?

I know it isn't Blu-Ray, but I watched Shoot the Piano Player last night and thought it was brilliant. I'm becoming a big fan of Truffaut, any chance we will see more of his films on Blu-Ray?

I hope so. I love his films, too.

A Doinel Blu set would be awesome.

As would a spine for: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070460/

This high on my Criterion bluray wishlist.

I still haven't bought The 400 Blows on blu-ray because of my need to wait for this. I can't just sell my DVD copy, because Antoine and Collete is on the same disc, and that is my favorite Doinel story
