If you enjoy Film Noir, I highly recommend "M" with Peter Lorre. In my opinion, it is his best work. This is another film with excellent pq and aq for its time. In my opinion, these two movies are ones that you can watch time and time again, and never get tired of.

If you are a fan of Charlie Chaplin, "Modern Times" is another movie I highly recommend.
Thanks for the advice, I've been thinking about Modern Times for a whle now, and Paths of Glory also. I love film noir, but don't really know anything about M, except that it's a Criterion film noir.
And Greek, thanks for your help.

"M" is every bit of a "suspense" film too... don't think I'd call it a "thriller" but it's full of tension, and "who-done-it" type qualities.

SlickDamian,

if you luv film noir you have to own M because it is one of the 'grandfathers' of noir.

also, since you luv film noir, you have to watch almost every single film directed by Fritz Lang (the director of M). imho he helped usher in the genre in a huge way. dunno what it would be without him. a big chunk of his films have noir-qualities (imported from German Expressionistic era ofc).

Hey SD,

M, Wages of Fear & Army of Shadows are all $28 at Amazon.ca right now. They are all fantastic films and seem to fit in very well with your collection. The Red Shoes is one of my favourite films in the collection. I always find myself promoting that one to anyone who will listen.

After just getting into the Criterion collection I would completely agree that Modern Times, Paths of Glory, Red Shoes and M are definitely worthy blind buys. If you are a true fan of classic movies these are a must for your collection and if you want one of the best for aq and pq id recommend the more recent Thin Red Line

To my knowledge, it doesn't. If you want a plastic case, you will need to order one (separately) from Criterion.

Barnes&Noble cancelled my Videodrome order that was part of the B2G1. Normally that's a bad thing but in this case all it did was drop a full priced movie, which resulted in my buying Cronos and Army of Shadows for around $12 each. I'll just grab Videodrome whenever another sale comes along.

They dropped it from me too, which kinda irritates me cause I used a 20% off code on it that I couldn't use for my second order.

But like you, I'm still suppose to get one of them for free and one of them for whatever price.

I also recently watched the DVD, a few months back. Was quite a revelation vs the old Criterion LD. And I suppose the really big screen I have now vs the small screen I had when I was still able to watch the LD helped a lot. Will make a nice blu-ray some day.

Ditto for Jules and Jim.

(I have four Criterion LDs: Blade Runner, The Graduate, and these two Truffauts. Can't play them any more, but still have them.)

from a poster "another" site--
can't vouch for how accurate it may or may not be, but it's an interesting--albeit highly disappointing-- observation if true.

"Received this a day early from amazon. Excitedly put it in the player, and was immediately disappointed. During the new transfer, the color grading was changed to the overused teal/orange look that's all the rage in digital editing these days. It's not in-your-face, but it's very noticeable. James L Brooks and his editor supervised it, so I guess it's filmmaker's intent, but I wish they had left well enough alone."

Lola Montes is $21.99 on Amazon right now too.

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Lola-...-Blu-ray/8202/

And The Last Metro (which I never think to recommend, but LOVE LOVE LOVE the film) is $22.50

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-L...-Blu-ray/3442/

The number of titles below $25 are vast.... so I suggest shopping for your favorites now....

Reminds me 2009 when Amazon did it all the time.
