There have been a few "drops" lately.... and now "this" (meaning a lot of titles dropped) I'd love to think we'll get back to the days of the occasional $23-$25 pre-order..... and so far "Senso" is a good deal, but I think they dropped Broadcast News from $26.99 after it already shipped to me.... and the Fuller titles dropped well after release. It's a lot better than it was..... $27.99 pre-orders followed by $35 prices after release

An essential.
Is this film (Red Shoes) any good? Thinking of doing a blind buy on this one. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. And for this price is it worth it?

This is a subjective question. There's no right or wrong answer for you. It's a matter of personal taste. Most people in this thread are going to consider "The Red Shoes" a "good" film... and most people consider it a great film. However, it's not up to us to decide for you.

Ask yourself this... do you like dramatic films with ballet and dance sequences? Do you enjoy older, classic films with a great story and cinematography?

Have you gone to Criterion's site, or YouTube, to watch the and clips or the trailer? Here is Criterion's page, which has a clip of the film.

If someone enjoys the film, then yes, the price is definitely worth a purchase. Do you want to spend your own money on something you're not sure of, though? That's the question to ask.

Just seeing Moira Shearer dance is worth the price alone.

I watched it a while ago and it didn't really "click" with me. While I knew something great was on screen, I found my mind sort of wandering during the film. I plan on rewatching it because I have a feeling I missed something that apparently "clicked" with most other criterion collection fans.

Not every film in the collection will "click" with you, and that isn't a bad thing. I probably felt the same way as you when I first saw it but found that I enjoyed it more in subsequent viewings and now I love Fellini's work.

It didn't "click" with me until I had watched it 2-3 times. I then fell in love with it. But for some, it just might not be their cup of tea. I was the same way with "The Seventh Seal" initially and now I've watched as many Bergmans as I can.

It's all based on personal preference (as per CCFixx)...all we ask is respect for the things that we like and the things that we dislike (as per SpiderBaby and most of the rest of us).

Still working on "Last Year at Marienbad"...it hasn't won me over yet.

I've watched it twice now, Marienbad, and I enjoyed it much more the second time. There is so much going on and changing from scene to scene, that between reading the subtitles and trying to catch the differences in location, outfits, and time, it was hard to digest after just one viewing.

It was a film that had me thinking about it months later!

I sort of felt the same way, it was a chore to get through the first time. After sometime I realized how incredible of a film it is, and now its one of my favorites. On the disc there is a video of Terry Gilliam talking about the film and why he loves it so much, I would recommend watching that if you get the chance.

I'm spoiled as the first two times I saw Red Shoes was the restoration print.........on the big screen.

The first two times I saw Marienbad.............was on the big screen, on consecutive nights (Awesome experience!).

I'm very fortunate.

If you aren't checking out the supplements, you shouldn't be allowed to post on this thread.

If you really need it, I can put the DVD transfer on a blu-ray disc for you, if you'd like? It'll cost you $500, though, so that I can buy the proper equipment.
