While reading the 5th book in Stephen King's The Dark Tower series, I thought suspiciously that it was a lot like Seven Samurai. Of course, King himself said that was his inspiration for the story.

BTW, that series was an amazing read...really like nothing else he's written before.

Before returning back on topic, I wanted to add that the Dark Tower series was nothing less than tremendous. Great series! But I am biased due to my adoration for Stephen King.

Any pics been posted yet? From what I've heard it is a cardboard package style release and I have the DVD version. (Just cringing wondering what my amazon.com order will look like Tuesday haha)

I picture your home as being immaculate..... I'm also going to go out on a limb, and say despite being in MN, you probably don't have a drop of road-salt in the interior of your car.....

Not picking on you.... I just find it amusing that you're that particular about the corners etc....

the item if bought is NEW then it should look NEW not used. That is just me.

If I do get it damaged I just have amazon resend me a new copy and I send the poorly smashed one back. Usually I just buy them locally at Barnes but I didn't realize until this morning that this one is a cardboard packaged one, and I love them, but usually only buy them in a store.

I thought Sweet Smell of Success was going to a paper style case also but from what I read on dvdbeaver it is a plastic case.

Usually we can count on the Criterion Forum page to give us packaging shots weeks in advance but lately they don't seem as excited over posting images etc.

I've never had a problem with any blu-ray packaging coming from Amazon.

There was a picture posted by a user on Criterion's Facebook page, but it was just the sealed blu-ray. It's definitely cardboard on the outside, but I don't know if the cardboard runs throughout the whole design or not.

Do you think it might have something to do with Chris over at criterionforum.org not actually having the review copies of these discs, yet... or, would you rather just assume that the people over at that site are just being poopy-pants and aren't "excited" about posting the images for everyone to see?

If you look on Criterion's site, you'll see that both "Amarcord" and "Still Walking" are backordered. This was the same last week with "The Double Life Of Veronique," as well, on Criterion's site.

Are you referring to Criterion's blu-ray plastic cases? Why don't you send/take them back to where the movies were purchased and ask for replacements? If this obvious option doesn't agree with you, then you could always contact Criterion directly about replacing the two damaged cases for you. They may, or may not, choose to replace them for free. The worst case scenario is that you might have to buy two of the "replacement cases" and use them for your damaged items. This will cost you $7.50 directly from Criterion... all of the details are on the first page of the thread.

It could have something to do with a lot of things. I have no idea, from what I have noticed with packaging photos they have been coming in later than usual over at Criterion Forum. It was not an attack, just an observation. For all I know they are getting burned out.

Just had my "Night of the Hunter" digipak and "America Lost & Found" slipbox replaced for free by Criterion and it was not the first time. They are great with this stuff.

I second that! I've received a bunch from them, and I always offer to pay since I feel bad about asking them for things that are out of their control.

I would rather assume that they're slacking off over there. Nobody gets the benefit of the doubt in my book.

I haven't been to Reckless in a long time, so I don't know if they have Criterion blu-rays, but they should definitely have new and used DVDs.
Other than that, maybe Facets (Ashland and Fullerton). Its a theater/rental/video store, but I don't know if they have blu-rays.
I know a couple of rental stores, but I don't know if your are interested in renting dvds.

FYI, there are 3 Reckless stores in Chicago.

Reckless does have them, mostly dvd. I have seen very few blus in the shops. Their website has a search engine and will tell you what and where they have the discs. It is usually pretty accurate.

Me too. Not unusual to try several times to get a NEW copy, but once in a while just have to end up settling. (Seems I have to settle a bit more often than in the past, but I will usually still try a few times; more often it works, sometimes it doesn't.)
