Juliet of the Spirits would be incredible. If Adventures of Robin Hood is any indication of what Technicolor looks like on BD. this would indeed be very exciting. On an unrelated Fellini note, The Importance of Being Earnest would also be an amazing Technicolor transfer, as well as Robinson Crusoe on Mars. I am sorry for getting off topic.

Absolutely. I've figured they would do this for a while.

Very interesting... I just wish the same for all other releases like Downhill Racer... but it looks like they haven't announced their normal slew of DVD releases and BDs for December maybe there will be more announced. :-)

Yeah, I watched "A Christmas Tale" the other day after I had recorded it off IFC and found that I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I consider myself a film lover, have a huge collection of movies, but when it comes to Criterion releases, I feel like an ignorant. The majority of the films in this thread I have never seen. I want to start ordering some movies from Criterion, which ones would you recommend to start? I already have preordered Gomorrah (heard very good things about it). Thanks

If you truly are a film lover, these are must buys for you:

The Third Man
The 400 Blows
The Seventh Seal
Wages of Fear
Last Year at Marienbad
Playtime

EDIT: Will a Christmas Tale be the only Criterion BD in December?

I think they added Christmas Tale to the mix.. but since they havent announced and DVD December releases yet... I would think there is more to come.

I would for sure be releasing more titles for Christmas shopping.

I've never seen this film, but Martin Scorsese and his editor Thelma Schoonmaker seem to always talk about it. Might have to give it a rent(I'm not a big fan of ballet).

"A Christmas Tale" is listed as a December release...Though the 1st tesday of the month. I'm hoping they add at least 1 more title for the month, otherwise that's 2 months in a row with only one title.
Plus the Nov, and Dec releases are only a week apart.

I guess back then, when all we had were non-letterbox VHS, it WAS special. Now it seems we sort of take for granted that until VHS, and really to a degree the DVD market, many films weren't even available to us, especially with top-quality video and sound. Criterion has always been my favorite of all the companies and I just wanted to applaud their work yet again.
While I think you are correct in that it isn't AS special these days to pick up a CC release it still feels more special than any other BD purchase and I look most forward to them and the MOC releases.

I think it is safe to say there will be more released in DEC. The clues to this is that Criterion never really made any official DVD releases listed yet for DEC. and Christmas Tale seems to be added to the list... but again not with the rest of the DEC announcements. I would guess in the next couple of days of getting everything more clear they will post the DEC titles.

They have at least updated the new changed release dates for titles like Wings of Desire and Monsoon Wedding and Howards End.

If they announce nothing for December that would really be odd and would mean financial issues, I don't see that happening.

Yeah, so now there are 4 November titles and no October titles. It's getting weirder and weirder around here.

Plus you still have the "Fellini" teaser that hasn't come to fruition.
