So, did Svet spoil The Double Life of Veronique in his review or what?

Default Still Walking (Criterion)

I am mainly an action/horror movie guy but I have a soft spot for these "natural" or "spontaneous" heart warming type of movies. Those movies that make you feel that you are not watching a film, but rather just eavesdropping on ordinary people going by their ordinary lives... and this one seems to be right in this alley. I have really liked Before Sunrise, Before Sunset and Joy Luck Club.

Is this worth a blind buy?

So far it has been a hit and miss for me with Criterion. Some of them I really like, some are just not my cup of tea. So it being "Criterion stamped" is not really a guarantee that I'll like it.

I've seen the film already but I usually don't read the intro part to reviews. He gave away the ending in his 'M' review (Thankfully, I had seen that one already).

Yea he may not be the only one that spoils the films he reviews, but it seems like he does in the majority of his reviews, thus I will no longer be reading reviews for films I have not seen by him.

I wouldn't say it's not "worth it" but I wouldn't recommend it, especially since it's admittedly not within your normal genre, with a couple exceptions....

It's not a cheap title either... you may want to rent it, or better yet, it's available for instant streaming via Netflix right now

And there is nothing you can stamp on the cover of a movie to guarantee enjoyment..... heck, even "XXX" can be misleading sometimes

I wouldn't necessarily say that's a spoiler. It is in a way, but the movie's focus is on another character.

Yea, but that just seems like something that no matter what, you should leave out or as a "spoiler" in a review.

IMO, I don't think it's a spoiler at all. She dies fairly early in the film and it really does not have much to do with the idea of the film in general.

It's like a lightning bolt in your head to jump-start a Criterion-Blu-ray-Collection:

http://cgi.ebay.com/68-Criterion-Col...item3cb496896a

I did a double take, because the order of the movies (Including the "Night of The Hunter" smashed on the bottom) reminded me of a picture I had posted on this forum, and I thought someone lifted it

EDIT: And for "Bulk" that is stupid expensive.

Well, I can heartily recommend it, and from your description I think you will like it. The actors are all great and they've really managed to capture a natural and believable family dynamic.

Personally I was very surprised. I had a vague idea of what it was about and thought "Oh, it's one of those meandering family dramas" but I was genuinely moved by it, and it made me feel very nostalgic, emotional and a bit melancholic. It's not perfect, there are a few missteps, but overall I thought it was excellent.

However I will say that it is fairly easy to get into and has a very calm atmosphere, so if you're the type that feels there's no point to a movie unless everything's obfuscated by ambiguity and randomness, or is about odd, alien or tough subjects that are uncomfortable, boring or otherwise hard to watch, it might not be for you.

That's an average of about $30 a film...a bit expensive for "used" BDs...even Criterion.

Thanks for that very detailed insight. I might go ahead and pull the trigger on this.
