I would suggest not reading the review of Fish Tank until after you've seen the film. The first time I watched it, I was on the edge of my seat, unsure if the movie was going to "go there" or not. It's a good review, but it has Major Plot Spoilers.

After comparing the two discs, I'm torn as to which one I prefer. The Artificial Eye has 5.1 audio and a "smoother" appearance. The Criterion definitely has more grain (or noise), 2.0 audio, and more generous extras.

I feel like I should probably keep both of them.

Happily, it will be available to stream on NetFlix...the benefit is not only convenience, but access. New films are usually a long to very long wait.

I've done it many times before buying...makes more sense than "blind buying" for those of us on welfare.

Hey rezpekt...have you been checking out my collection?

Yes...BFI has been banging these out at a very fast clip. I'm awaiting delivery of "Good Morning", which will catch me up with all those that are currently available...can't wait for the two announced for late May that you have listed above.

Hey...maybe CC BD #100 will be an Ozu title...Tokyo Story?

well of course I have no idea, but I'll go with a title that I'm shocked they haven't released yet, is long overdue, and which has been released overseas--
Picnic at Hanging Rock.
Guess we'll find out on the 15th.

My copy of Amarcord just shipped from B&N, however, they charged me, or are in the process of charging me, the full amount. I used one of those $20 Groupon coupons, and although it showed up when I checked out, it is certainly not showing up on my online checking account...

Hmmmmmmm...

I wish I would have read this post before reading the review.

That might be my plan..... I still need to watch the CC version to make the comparison, but I haven't watched the A.I. version in a few months, so I'll probably have to watch that again right before/after....

Ahhh The Double Life of John

A 2-blu-ray set Battle of Algiers would be great for #100.

The list of Criterion Collection titles available on Blu-ray elsewhere is quite long. I was disappointed that they did not release Rashomon for AK100 celebration.

I'd be shocked if we didn't see Rashomon on BR in 2011. They're not going to sit on the restoration too long. The new print was in art houses a while ago.

If there are any more Kurosawa blu-rays in the future, my predictions for most likely candidates, in order, are:

1. Madadayo
2. Rashomon
3. The Hidden Fortress
4. Throne Of Blood
5. Red Beard

I also wonder if it's possible Warner would release Dreams because it's showing up on my Directv On Demand options in full 1080p.

In 2009. They've waited 2 years already.

Kurosawa is great, but how about a Mizoguchi title on Blu-ray? The DVDs of Ugetsu and Sansho the Bailiff say they are new, restored high def transfers.
