That probably have just as many reasons why they couldn't release them.

And Criterion means different things to different people. To some, just that a film they like gets a Criterion release at all, with a unique cover and a few new extras, is cause for celebration. To me Criterion means getting (mostly) good quality releases of films no other distributor is going to bother with.

That's why I see stuff like reasonably big studio titles on Criterion as a complete waste, because they would be released sooner or later by the studios anyway. I don't give a crap about extras so to me a re-release of a title previously in the collection on DVD is no more a re-hash than a release of a title previously released on DVD by some other distributor.

Be cool you little blu-rayers, I'm still going to spend $30 to upgrade Solaris, so we can still be friends,

I would almost agree, but I have two titles for you that needed help from above, The Silence of the Lambs, and Spartacus. Studios released them and they are only good as drink coasters.

To me they exude about as much "Criterionness" as the two Michael Bay titles.

I am with you, I truly enjoy Chaplin's movies and I am very happy they are getting a Blu-ray release. Don't let others bring you down

You can suggest all you want, it's moot. I have a feeling all emails addressed to the suggestions@criterion.com account goes to a Junk/Spam folder. Criterion doesn't give a flying $#it what customers want. They're a bunch of folks who seem to think only they know what quality cinema is and it only comes from the West and Japan. Aside from the two WKW films and YiYi, it's appalling that they continue to ignore non-Japanese Asian cinema. Just my personal opinion, I think most of their recent title announcements have been rather uninspiring. I know I'll get flamed for this since many here seem to worship at the altar of Criterion

I haven't seen "Something Wild" and it looks interesting based on the trailer, but the thing I'm most excited about, is the fact that it apparently has a pretty big soundtrack.

I'm obviously excited about Solaris and The Great Dictator, but I really can't wait to pick up "Fat Girl"

I won't flame you for the disparaging remarks regarding what they choose to/not-to release..... but to say they don't care about what their customers want is ridiculous.

I think they do read over the suggestions and have discussions about future re-issues etc, but I think it comes down to licensing. I know they even said toe get Days of Heaven released on BLU they had to beg and plead with Paramount that the release was worthwhile.

I have stated several times I really don't like their IFC distribution deal. I think some of the films they got from the deal kind of fell flat for me. I do own several of them, but I just think the IFC's hurt more of the "usual" Criterion type films get pushed back for BD update.

To change the subject I wish SUMMERTIME would get a really great restoration and released on Blu.

This is true, but it's assuming Criterion has the opportunity and are willing to go the extra length, which is not always the case (in my opinion Silence of the Lambs, while hardly great, looks better than some of Criterion's Blu-rays. Not to mention that it could be had for under $10 while Criterion releases will be $25-30 regardless of how they look or how much work was put into them.)

One recent example is The Thin Red Line, which is now being released by Fox in the UK, and would no doubt have been released by them in the US as well had it not been for Criterion. It got a shiny new 4K transfer, and what I'd love to know is, how much of this was thanks to Criterion, or were Fox prepared to do that regardless?

Hmm. Just an interesting oddity. I wonder why they list Charlie Chaplin as the director of "Modern Times", but Charles Chaplin for "The Great Dictator"

Not sure of the specific details in this instance, but Chaplin often listed himself as Charles Chaplin in the credits for films. Perhaps they are trying to reflect this. (I don't remember off of the top of my head how he listed himself for Modern Times.)

the Silence of the Lambs is a horrible HD transfer. The HD trailer on the BD looks better than the HD transfer of the actual film.

May's covers are probably their worst to date for a single announcement.

Beside's Diabolique, which looks great.

Solaris looks like an amateurs attempt at photoshop. bad choice of colors.

Smiles of a summer night would look better all in black and white and without that distracting thing behind the text

great dictator looks like a last minute rush job, topsy turvy effect works but it would look better with the swastika from the film lightly overlayed behind the image.

Something wild looks like a 1990's clip art zoomed in

pale flower's photo is way too dull. it looks like it was hacked to pieces in photoshop

rant over.
