I guess I'm really having trouble wrapping my mind around "Something Wild". I've got nothing at all against the film. I'm not here to slam it. I just don't get it I guess. I've never really seen this as anything but a disposable (if admittedly enjoyable) Saturday afternoon flick.
![]() But hey. More power to it. I will never say a film "shouldn't" be included. I'm not that arrogant. I'm just a little surprised is all. |

Extremely disappointed with the cover for The Great Dictator, mostly because they re-used the topsy-turvy effect, but also because the hair and mustache right side up bear a striking resemblance to Eric Cartman as Hitler.

I hope this one gets a 'three reasons' trailer because I'm genuinely curious to see what they say. |

I dunno who came up with that artwork for Great Dictator...it's just so out there?!
![]() But I'm just psyched that it's being released...and after the superb transfer of Modern Times (and this film being made 4 years later), I can't wait to be amazed by the transfer! Thank you Criterion Gods for giving us some more blu Chaplin...keep em coming boys! |

Wow......! Kudos for the "Smiles of a summer night" announcement! While I also would have liked a virgin spring or a fanny and alexander release, I like that fact that they chose to go with a lesser known Bergman release. I don't get why people feel this is his weakest film....? I personally enjoy seeing Bergman cut loose and make something funny (Even though he is one of my favorite directors, his movies can be utterly depressing at times). All I know is that I will be double dipping on this one for sure.
![]() Another reason I like the announcment of smiles of a summer night is the simple fact that we are now guaranteed atleast two Bergman releases this year (or atleast in the foreseeable future) since a Wild Strawberries release is a given ![]() Also glad I didn't buy Fat Girl during the last sale! almost did.... i would have been kicking myself now ![]() |

I admire the Coens greatly. They seem to have copped a lot of criticism lately, yet films like No Country for Old Men and A Serious Man are to me further examples of Coen perfection. I didn't care much for Burn After Reading but I would still watch any of their films multiple times. I just scored the bluray of Serious Man and really looking forward to showing it to my wife. |

I'm going to have to agree The Great Dictator is a terrible cover. What is the upside-down hat supposed to be anyway? A body with tiny arms and no legs? Looks like a doll, or one of those weighted baby-toys that are impossible to topple over.
Of course it loses major points for re-using the same gimmick, and for some reason it really bugs me that the title is written out twice, so even if the central image can work both ways you'll always have part of the cover that's completely wrong. |

I hope Steven Spielberg's first film Duel (1971) will soon be added to the Criterion Blu-ray collection.

Agreed about Diabolique being good and the rest ranging from meh to bleh, but I really like the cover for Pale Flower. I think it manages to convey a certain mysterious atmosphere, and makes me really interested in seeing what the movie is about from the cover alone.

I like the Solaris artwork very much. Gives it a real 70's tacky feel, which it is. Got an album feel to it. I just hope we get that for more films instead of trying to prep it up.
