My wife liked Vivre Sa Vie quite a bit.
She liked Seven Samurai (even though she struggled with the running time).
We saw Benjamin Button in the cinema and both loved it.
Chungking Express was also very well liked.

EDIT: We watched The Double Life Of Veronique tonight and she liked that a lot.

May releases are up for pre-order now on amazon. You will have to do a name search for Great Dictator and Solaris but rest show up under criterion.

Guys, I think I'm going to do a Criterion blind buy today. I have 3 titles in mind, haven't seen any of them before, and they are all quite different: For All Mankind, Mystery Train, and Modern Times. Anybody have an opinion? I'm currently leaning towards For All Mankind, because I love documentarys and have always had an interest in space. But the Chaplin film looks interesting, and I've seen one of his films, or a silent movie, before. Mystery Train just looks very odd, and I like that. I am not sure which?

There's a place near me that has The Third Man blu ray for $30 (new), and I want to pick it up considering the price it's going for elsewhere. But, for me, $30 is a lot for a blind buy - is it worth it?

For All Mankind easily imo, despite the fact that Modern Times is good too.

I agree with jhiggy23.....For All Mankind.

The other two are also good. I know Modern Times gets a lot of love around here. I was sceptical, until on a whim I blind bought it and liked it. I can't say I am a big Chaplin fan, but I am learning. I plan to get the Great Dictator too.

Mystery Train is also in my collection. Good film, actually quite funny and entertaining, especially the first story with the Japanese tourists.

But For All Mankind is easily my choice of the three. Space and the Apollo program. Two of my favorite things in a great movie documentary.

Thought I read somewhere that The Green Room looked like crap and/or was not anamorphic or some such thing.

Personally, not a big fan of BOD. Seems like the easy way out for the studios, but in the end it's a lot more expensive for the consumer. Many/most of these discs cost as much if not more than a blu-ray.

I don't like it either, but I brought it up for the Criterion to Hulu thing. If some of the films won't ever see a dvd release, they could atleast do the on demand thing like this MGM as a last resort.

I'm a huge fan of Rolling Thunder and I've been waiting for years for someone to give it a decent release. It seems like a natural fit for Criterion for me because of their relationship with Paul Shraeder, although I did read somewhere that he wasn't happy with the movie. Burn on demand is a nice idea, but I think this film deserves better.
