Amazon needs to drop them. Prestige is unprofessional.

They delivered SSoS today. I knew they were coming so I left a note for them that it's OK to leave the package in the lobby.

Perhaps there are issues with "Sweet Smell of Success"

I just popped it in, menu came up, then the menu froze (picture) and the audio kept going in it's normal loop.......

I couldn't exit etc... froze the player.... turned it off/on and I got it to start playing..... I'll watch it now, and see if it's "trouble-free" throughout.....

I have the latest firmware available for my Sony BX57 or whatever model this player is........

Have there been any other reports about issues with this title?

And of course, even though the order it was used on was cancelled, I can't use that promo code again... Pretty disappointing. Anybody have much experience with DeepDiscount? Should I keep badgering them about this, or is that a pretty futile thing to do?
Years ago they were great, a little slower but just as reliable as Amazon. But lately, they have been getting worse and worse. I'm pretty patient, but I believe I waited a total of 3 months to get my last order from them delivered, which was labeled "in stock" on the website, but secretly backordered when they look it up on the computer...for months.

I have had one or two positive customer service experiences with them this year though, but it was mostly nice people embarrassed at how inefficient the company they worked for was.

I would never buy from them again, however, if the discount wasn't very, very, very good. Like crazy good. And even then I would think my chances were 50/50.

Ok.. I give in. I just placed my order for Sweet Smell of Success. I had to buy a plastic washer to get the free shipping, but the deal is done.

It's weird how they operate...I placed an order once and received it before I even got a shipping notice. I swear it must have 5 days after I placed the order. Very quick.

Then, one time, I ordered Batman Returns and Batman Forever, and while I got Returns in the normal time frame, BF took well OVER 2 months. One day I got home from work, and VOILA!!

So, for the prices, its worth it if you aren't in any rush to watch the movies you're ordering from them.

Question for UK Criterion collectors like myself - Where do you order your titles from?

I used to use PlayUSA for the titles they stocked, couple of quid cheaper than most other retailers.

Since their demide. I have used Axel a few times and DVDWorldUSA. Movietyme are just edging both these on price, and I did use to use this company quite a bit in the past and they were always customs safe. HOWEVER, I see on their site it now says they cant be held responsible for any customs? I really want to order Sweet Smell of Success, Amarcord and Network (not Criterion but a truly brilliant film) but dont fancy the customs hit. Anyone order from there and comment on how they got on with the over £18 purchases?

On another note, just sold my Fear and Loathing Criterion It was tough to part with one of my earliest Criterion purchases, one of their best packages, a wonderfully crafted set (the artwork/slip-case combo) and one of my all-time favorite films. I listed it for sale somewhere not expecting it to go so quick, but it was snapped up and now I am left with a F&L void in my life until April Will be pre-ordering the blu-ray soon.

Well...I'm a resident from "The Colonies", but from my experiences so far with Amazon UK...I might consider them as an option.

I can't reap this benefit, but if you're in the UK, you get free shipping. Prices seem to be only slightly higher than I've seen on the US Amazon.

Other than the fiasco with Royal Mail over the Christmas/New Year Holidays and the "terrorist" factor with shipping overseas, I've never had a problem with shipping and typically see things in 5-10 days on the average.

Royal Mail is "almost" as reliable as UPS from the US Amazon.

Just got my package from Amazon containing Senso and the Amazon exclusive The Mission (non-CC of course). I needed something to bring the total over $25 for free shipping. I keep some titles in my cart that I want, but do not have to have right away...

Should be receiving my Sweet Smell of Success as well from Borders today. It is listed as arriving today on the tracking page.

Someone said the packaging for SSoS was a bit "smaller" dimension-wise than the other cardboard cases...is this true? I can see it being thinner, a la Breathless and Amacord, but not shorter...interesting.

Edit: Well, yea it is. Just got it...it's damaged too

Am I the only one that never gets any movies damaged? I mean there are dents in the corners and stuff on the package but the movies are 100% fine. Sorry to hear that the movie was damaged.

I've had pretty good luck thus far. I've ordered from both Amazon and B&N and have not received any damaged product (my only complaint would be my Amarcord from Amazon at a slight dent on one corner, but nothing to really make a fuss about). Of course, buying from my local record store (a Criterion home-base, one could say, as they stock most Criterion releases) have the units in pristine condition.

The outer box was crushed/creased bad enough that it went through to the inner digipak. First off, the digipak has a tough time going in and out (that's what she said) and second, it looks like someone hit the corner with a small hammer.

Borders used that flimsy cardpaper packaging that is 10x the size of the actual BD packaging.

The movies are just fine, thank you very much. At least they "look" fine. The packaging (read my response above) is severely damaged...and we're not talking just a tiny crease here or there.

I appreciate your concern, however.
