Thanks. The topic of course wasn't meant to be serious as it was a question about something silly, so glad you found it funny.

And this kind of thing, ironically enough, is exactly why you're a blu-ray samurai

It just means that you've been recognized as the #1 blu-ray supporter of Kurosawa samurai films released in The Criterion Collection.

Did I say anything in that which isn't true though?

That is what it is.

Can't wait to watch the Oscars tonight and see Hopper get 1.2 seconds worth of Easy Rider footage for his life in film. And maybe if I'm lucky, they will show a clip of this past fall's award to Godard, who wiped his a** with it by not showing up and a bunch of Hollywood crackheads toasting to his picture, which you can see on youtube.

For someone that's worked a 40+ hour job since graduating high school 15 years ago, I think yesterday included the most film watching for myself in quite a long time. Of course, being sick since Thursday helped put me in a relaxed, stay-on-the-couch mindset, which made watching films easier than doing anything else.
  • Persona (1966)... As part of my current ongoing 'For The Love of Bergman' chronological filmography, I finally made it up to the MGM productions.
  • Jeremiah Johnson (1972)... A great Robert Redford vehicle manned by Sydney Pollack. Usually, the name Robert Redford, much like Kevin Costner, steers me away from seeing many films but I've wanted to see this one for many years knowing that the song "White" by The Cult was inspired by this film.
  • Morocco (1930)... A fantastic film by Josef von Sternberg that I was thankful for TCM broadcasting yesterday.
  • Chapter 27 (2007)... I've had this film on my DVR for a while now... following Mark David Chapman, played by Jared Leto, and his three days in NYC before the shooting of John Lennon. Not bad, but not amazing.
  • The Naked Kiss (1964)... I watched Criterion's blu-ray of "Shock Corridor" Friday night, so it was only appropriate to follow it up with this Fuller companion.
  • Sweet Smell Of Success (1957)... "The cat's in a bag, and the bag's in the river."

I bought one on half.com this morning for 70 shipped, I think. I wasn't going to buy one but then I figured I'd just sell my dvd copies and that would basically make the upgrade to blu about 20 bucks, hopefully, which would make the 70 dollar price not so ridiculous.

Off-Topic (of course )

I thought Une Femme est une femme was out region free somewhere..... but I can't find it (via search)

Did I miss something?? I swear it was being discussed

I will snag up "Une Femme Mariee' " for a low-low price...converted to real money, to equate to whatever they charge me

Well I have the single disc version from years ago, then bought the two disc when I found it was going OOP (blu was already gone). But I'm hoping that between the two it'd at least be a wash. I'm willing to wait to get a better price too.

Default OOP titles

I have a question: why doesn't Criterion do a limited run for in-demand titles that have gone out of print?
Why allow others to make a killing and loyal consumers and fans suffer inflated prices?
Criterion should be making money off a title like The Third Man and we should be able to get it at a reasonable price.

They don't own the titles. And they've lost their license so they can no longer release them. Sometimes it seems like they can print up a few before their licenses expire, but sometimes it seems like some of the licenses expire before they get a chance to do so (or they have enough on hand to not want/need to).

An out-of-print title has gone out-of-print because Criterion's license to distribute it has expired, and they are often unable to re-acquire them from the licensor, even if cost is not a factor.

In due time. You need to work your way up through the fascist dictators. Blu-ray Mussolini, Blu-ray Stalin, etc....

I finally got around to seeing Monterey Pop and was really impressed. The PQ is very good and the AQ is incredible. I love the Redding set and it's cool to get a sampling of bands from '67. Next I need to watch the 49 minute Hendrix set but I love what I've seen so far. Very cool stuff.
