Why would this be any different from most of the sticky threads, like the slipcover thread. The first page has all the slips and what they look like. The next 1000+ pages have a bunch of babble, no different than this thread. If people want information on each release, the 1st page is more than fine on the releases and their respective reviews. If people have complained, and it sounds like it from Deciazulado posting, want to get a specific information on a release, then look it up on here or on Criterions website. IMO, I see nothing wrong with this thread. If they want to trim 500 pages from 2009, so be it to save space. Other than that reason, this thread is no different than any other thread on this site as for people going off topic...

Isn't finding out info on a film is what REVIEWS are for? People can go to the first page of this thread, click on a review, and it tells all about what they need. Plus they can always ask a question. No need to make a thread for every film. That will be 5-7 new threads every month.

Are people just mad that the 6 Star Wars films isn't getting more views on it's thread than the Criterion thread, that we should break apart this one, so Star Wars can lead? lol.

Is "Walkabout" any good? Its premise looks interesting.

I've read the review, but I would also love to hear feedback from people who have this in their collection.

I been using Les Carabiniers avatars that I thought I needed a Weekend one now. I wish the font can be seen, that makes the scene. Oh well.

I don't believe there are any spoilers at all, as the film is not about specific events but the evolution of a relationship. I cannot see how a writer can describe the tragedy that director Malle recalls in his film without referring to the end.

There's a big difference between a review and a thread conversation about a specific title. Why do any title-specific threads exist if they could simply be linked to the official review?

I personally don't like it that much. Decent, but not great imo.

In my case, the premise didn't sound too interesting, but the movie managed to hold my attention through the duration. It's a typical "kids lost in wilderness" kind of story, but makes some interesting story decisions with some weighty emotional threads.

I think I rated it 3.5/5 or 4/5... it's been a while since I've watched it. I could see the enjoyment level being greater for someone with an interest in the general plot concept.

If you like to see a kangaroo's head get bashed in, then yes, this film is for you.

It's been over a decade since I've seen it but I enjoyed it. Kind of a magic garden vibe to it. The opening scene with the father freaking out had a pretty strong impression on me.

The animal killing did make me uneasy but as a meat eater, I guess I can't complain. The animals hunted were eaten in the film, IIRC.

The movie itself is great.

Criterion is a collection of movies that, for the most part, have already been released, reviewed and discussed hundreds of times over on 100 different sites. Most of the BD releases are titles that have already been in the CC collection for years; ie, the guy asking about Walkabout. I find it pointless to have an individual thread of every release (5+ per month) when people can easily access more content, information and opinions on all the releases by simply visiting Criterions website. This forum has too many threads started by users that just don't do any research. Why add more confusion to the mix? Are the users opinions in this forum more valid than professional reviewers, or Criterions expertise themselves? Usually when people ask questions about a release, several users respond, just like people are responding about Walkabout now. Besides, and Beta will tell you, we tried the individual release threads years ago, and no one responded in them, as they knew this was the content area. Why try it again?

This will give you a 'real' idea of what the film is about. It's not a 'hunting' movie...

Walkabout is one of the most beautifully haunting movies ever made. True perfection.

I just watched it for the first time the other day--blind-bought it during the sale because the premise did sound interesting to me...and I liked it a lot. It's a pretty solid coming of age/lost innocence kind of tale.

EDIT: The person above me posted as I was writing, but the word 'haunting' is a perfect word for this film. But in a thoughtful, not scary, way.

Well, the movie is not about hunting but there are many scenes where hunting takes place. I was just pointing out that it's not for sensitive viewers.

Walkabout is also one of the first movies in what is IMO one of the greatest (and most overlooked) eras of filmmaking--Australian cinema of the 70s and early 80s.

I thought Walkabout was great. It's the kind of film that stays with you after you've seen it. It's about the loss of innocence and the realization that you can't go back and man's relationship with nature. Wonderful cinematography too.
