I saw the uncut Enter the Void this past weekend.
I can see why Criterion declined this one. The first 30 minutes are exciting and I really appreciate Noe's boldness......However, the film is about an hour too long at 2 hours 40 minutes. The film may be bold and ambitious but ultimately it's more indulgent than anything. Much of the film consists of Oscar's "spirit" diving into objects and people in first person mode. This is cool at first but it soon devolves into redundancy and sadly--- artistic masturbation. The film really could've done without gratuitous sex in the last half hour. Verdict: 3 stars Worth seeing at least once. It's a very flawed film but it has its moments. |

"Yang´s "A Brighter Summer Day" (1991) has long been rumored as an impending Criterion release and there has been "buzz" that an announcement of its release will accompany the official release of "Yi Yi." Rumors are only rumors, but one can hope. I have never had the chance to see the film, but many ardent boosters of "Yi Yi" argue that "Summer Day" is actually a superior film."
-a quote from DVDTown's review of Criterion's new BD version of Yi Yi, due on the 15th...the day they will announce new films. I wonder how much truth there is to the rumor... |

They've been working on it for two years if not longer. New prints have been screened recently. Read more here: http://www.criterionforum.org/forum/...php?f=2&t=9752

Now a 0% chance. Warner Bros. scooped it up and it's being released with the Kubrick set in May.
