Warner does not own Spartacus. They struck a deal with Universal to include it in the box set. The version in the box set will be the same Universal release that's now available.

You just summed up Noe's entire career.

I had rented Wages of Fear last year but turned it off about an hour in. Partly because I hate leaving a movie unfinished and because of the esteem it enjoys from people who have pretty good taste in movies, I DVR'd it off TCM a few days ago. So, having watched the rest of it, I gotta stick with my previous thumbs down assessment. Too much of the tension was manufactured, as if the writers had never driven before, and the stunt ending was pretty weak.

[Show spoiler]1.) Washboarding does take place on dirt/gravel roads, but there's nothing magical about different rates of speed. It's bumpy if you're going 5 mph and it's bumpy if you go 50 mph. The vibrations are different, but the nitro would be more likely to blow at 50 than 5. And what's up with the guys almost rear-ending the truck in front? As if doing that would be better than dropping below 40 mph. That part was just stupid.

2.) The wooden overhang scene was chock full of the unreal. To get around a tight corner you only need to back up as far as it takes to straighten out the truck. So going all the way back to the edge wouldn't improve the turning ability. The tires wouldn't spin on wood because the wood wasn't wet, but if it were the rear end of the truck wouldn't slide out as if it were on ice.

3.) We don't know what caused the truck to blow up, but the terrain there wasn't anything they hadn't seen before was it? Even so, it felt like the writer didn't need two crews anymore so he said, "And then the truck blows up".

4.) What the hell was Jo doing in the crater? News flash: A truck will run you over if you're in their way. If you're scouting the crater, walk through it and tell the driver where to go. I thought that's what he did, but if he had done that he might have noticed THERE WAS A TREE IN THE MIDDLE OF IT. And if that isn't what he was up to then what the hell was he doing walking in front of the truck? This entire scene made no sense. (Also, if you're covered in oil you probably shouldn't be lighting cigarettes.)

5.) If a guy lights a fuse that will soon drop a hammer into a pool of nitro DON'T RUN TOWARD IT. That part really had my eyes rolling.

Those are my major complaints. I know some of it's nit-picky, but if you're going to have a movie about truck driving you should at least understand how trucks behave. I didn't hate it, but when you get so many things wrong in a movie I hope its fans will forgive me if I can't really recommend it either.

It's funny, people say artistic masturbation like it's a bad thing but they also slam artists for pandering to other people's tastes and sensibilities.

So who does that leave, exactly?

They sum that up into a word : pretentious (stupid word. Nothing to me is pretentious.). When it's not understandable for you, or you feel left out in the action, call it pretentious. It will make you feel better, I guess.

Now there are 2 different kinds of "artistic masturbation"

The good : something like "Hunger". Fans of film's masturbation to the influence of other's works. Like a respect factor with director/fans/past directors.

The bad : seeing the director's masturbation on screen (Tarantino for example). You know, look at my fanboyish masturbation

Let's try to move forward without referring to it in these terms, and also not using graphic innuendos....

I'm sure they would have done a day-and-date Blu-ray release like with Ponyo if they could, but it hasn't been released on Blu-ray in Japan yet, and until then we're not going to see it in the US either.

The best parts of my post have been changed. I feel like I work for Hollywood now. Well, time for my Oscar now. Oh, I need to make a WWII movie or one with Streep. Maybe a WWII with Streep?

Yes, it's unfortunate that this is a censored "family-friendly" site. This site is the Steven Spielberg of forums on the Internet, I'm afraid. Even as adults, we're still censored on the Internet.

I watched my DVD copy of Ran a couple of years ago and it's just not a film that I would watch very often, even though I like it.
Plus, the negative reports about the Studio Canal are enough to put me off.
However, I'd love to know if Criterion are going to do Throne of Blood. Do they still have the rights?

The only Kurosawa films Criterion doesn't have the rights to is The Quiet Duel, Dersu Uzala, Ran, Dreams and Rhapsody in August.

EDIT: And technically 'Those Who Make Tomorrow'. Which Kurosawa disowned and didn't include in his credits.

I'll post regarding the condition etc. when it arrives.

I have the replacement case, and the original case from my copy (which is perfect as well) so the case-condition (It was stated that it had a small crease) is of little concern to me.

sounds good, i am wondering what my this is spinal tap will come as. it's coming from a seller in the uk, but its from a seller I have bought from before and I trust. like if you get the wrong item or its in bad shape, they will tell you to keep it and refund your money

the worst criterion I got though was fish tank. a lot of the back cover was ripped, and the left half the back case was almost close to falling off. For 11 dollars though I couldn't really complain too much about it since it played fine and included the booklet

I think it is a good idea to have backup copies of "The Third Man." I did the same thing a little while back. I got a plastic case still sealed, one plastic opened that I watch, and an open digipack as backup.
