Because it's a "Paramount" co-creation and Criterion only in name..... and also because they focus on films a lot more than packaging consistencies.

Moderators really shouldn't troll like that. It just doesn't look right.

Paths of Glory was the film that put Kubrick on the map. If anything, The Killing is the neglected one.

Also, with all the attention Criterion has been giving Tree of Life on twitter/facebook, I feel like they might be gunning for that one (unless its a total disaster).

Not lately. The last solid information on the CC release was the interview with David Fincher that was posted online. The link to the interview was posted in this thread a while back.

I don't think Paths of Glory is obscure at all... I owned the VHS and the MGM DVD. Also had a "The Killing/Killer's Kiss" double feature Laserdisc, as well as the MGM DVDs... so those films have certainly been out there and been around.

ok, so while i don't watch my Criterion BDs, i do put it into my player to make sure my disc isn't defective. i do that for all the discs i buy, so i can swap it out in case there is some replication issues.

anywho, question about the LCPM "mono" 1.0 that is typically listed on Criterion BDs. the LCPM comes out as 2.0, both L&R are fed the same channel.

is there such a thing as LCPM 1.0 where the mono channel is strictly in the center channel the way that Dolby Digital 1.0 provision plays ONLY out of the center channel? just curious that is all.

what i often do is (like Stagecoach) i enable Dolby Pro Logic and that steers everything to the center channel.

I am waiting for Criterion, I have a feeling it will be this year.
The MoC Tokyo Story blu is region free.

Edit: My mind is fried...long weekend and I just came back from I saw the Devil and in my head kept thinking Tokyo Sonata.

It's already rated high on Mubi with alot of fans, and no one has seen it yet, so I have my doubts about it not having alot of love for it (since it's obivious alot of people have made their minds up before even watching it. Masterpiece right?. I'd say.).

I must be the only one on the entire internet not really high on seeing it. Can't wait though to hear the love of CGI Dinosaurs by Criterion and "arthouse" fans when this comes out though.

I hope Sean Penn and Pitt ride Dinosaurs in a big battle. That I will watch, and serious. I also hope Godard wasn't playing around when he announced his 3D talking dog film.

While I rarely agree with your angry, arbitrary rants, I agree strongly with your last paragraph.

A ponderous, melancholy dinosaur battle filmed entirely at the magic hour, with expository voice over in a southern accent? Yes please!

^ Thanks. Some things just doesn't need to be that serious, and if Malick wants to make a film with a title that has to live up to it in the "Tree of Life", while at the same time not being "pretentious" about it, or having anti-CGI people out of the blue loving CGI because Malick did it, this needs a dinosaur battle with Penn and Pitt riding along. Just have Michael Bay or lil' Bay that made 300 do the action scenes.

Is it free? I was so sure I check the review and it was saying region B only, will have to check again

I now re-check your second line, you got confuse on the movies, it's all good. I went to check the review once again it is region B only. I could order it but I think this year will be the year for Criterion to release it on Blu-ray.

Malick and dinosaurs? Penn & Pitt riding them? Godard in 3d?

Ok I have to stop sleeping at night and read this thread more, things are getting wild in here

For some weird reason, I just don't see any of these 3 things happening, well maybe Godard in 3D, I could see him try something like that. He like's to try and experiment, not sure how much of that is still true in his old age but I could see him trying it, would not be so strange.

The trick Pat, is to have one player for region A and your Insignia for any region B/C. This way, you do the majority of the playing on your "main" player and save the Insignia for just the region B titles.

This is what I do with my Panny and Momitsu players.

FYI...it seems that BFI has and will continue to release Ozu titles at a faster clip than Criterion at this point. I still want the Criterion Tokyo Story and Late Spring releases for the supplements.

That is what I went for. Thus far I only had 2 movies that did not play on my Sony and so I only use these two in the Insignia and haven't use it for anything else. I got quite a things from Europe but they mostly been region free.

My wife has the Mom Prime as well...and hers doesn't expire until May 23. I'm probably getting my last "Prime" ship this week (Keaton/Our Hospitality/Kino), but will test the waters on the next shipped title after Wednesday, as someone here said that they got lucky.

Otherwise, might have to reorder some/all of my current preorders.

Criterion can get their hands on Tree of Life as long as it doesn't get heavy Oscar buzz (and if it ever gets released).

My prediction: the film will open to mixed reviews, many people of which were excited about the film from its trailer but then didn't like it because it's too meditative.

This is frustrating, because I can play region A and B, but I'd prefer to get titles like this from Criterion.
However, Criterion aren't announcing or making their intentions clear for future releases, so that it becomes tempting to get the BFI editions.
