Sounds like you have some setting on your AVR wrong..... Mono should just be the center channel.

I streamed this Kino DVD yesterday on NetFLix and really liked it: "Scarlet Street". Interesting Lang noir...don't know if this will ever make it to the CC blus, but it would be a good addition.

See if you have anything that says "Source direct" or something similar.... and use that.

Usually it's not. Most of the time, the same track is fed to the front L&R channels, like Jedi noted. It's usually called "mono 2.0." It coded this way on the disc.

I think I only remember one or two DVDs (no BDs, I don't think) that are actually "mono 1.0."

That's a pretty common way of doing it, but all the Criterion Blu-rays actually have "true" mono, i.e. only one channel encoded (LPCM 1.0). If the receiver says LPCM 2.0 then something in the playback chain is converting it to dual mono.

well my S-360 is set to bitstream, i can see DTS-HD MA & TrueHD... LPCM multichannel works fine. but Criterion 'monos' come out as 2.0, not 1.0. i haven't gotten home yet.

Any reason Criterion didn't restart the spine numbering for Blu-Ray? It really bugs me

I'm glad they didn't. Each film in the collection gets its own unique numbering. Not two, or even three with each consecutive home video format.

Bingo. Malick has this illogical hold on people's opinions it's ridiculous. I've seen people overanalyze the trailer to nauseating ends already.

Though there will be practical effects in addition to CGI. He approached Trumbull to work on it.

Each to their own, but I'd rather that my collection didn't range from 2-571 with so many gaps

I'm not sure why you would buy something you have no intention of watching, but I've seen people buy stuff from other regions etc... that they 'can't' watch (at least given their current players...) so yes "to each their own"

As far as spine numbers, I must be the only one who doesn't put them in "order" whatsoever.... Not by Spine #, not alphabetically, not by genre, not by director, not by year, not by run-time, not by country of origin, not by weight, not by size, not by number of scene changes, etc.

And if you're a self-proclaimed "OCD-Completeist" then I hope you have more than the single title listed in your collection, otherwise the next sale is gonna be EXPENSIVE for you

The sales don't affect me as I'm in the UK! I'm not really a completist, I usually only buy titles that I like but spine numbers just give me goosebumps, I do feel pressured into buying titles I don't really want. I did this with the Studio Ghibli titles, I really wasn't interested in Only Yesterday or *gasp* My Neighbour Totoro but I bought them anyway. The Ghibli titles were a lot cheaper than the Criterions though, around $13 rather than the $32 I'd be looking at for a Criterion title. I'm looking at buying a few more titles in the next few weeks though such as Magician and Au Revoir les Enfants (which is one of the few films in the collection I've seen and the only film I've cried at in a French class).

i've been Amazon Mom'ing myself, and if you dig around, there's all kinds of stuff that ends up counting towards it. for instance, i bought my dad a pair of shoes and it ended up counting and gave me another three months. Also, if you and the wife wanna pool your efforts, one of you can go into you prime membership and share it with your spouse. that way, if there just isn't anything that you want that would extend yours, you could take advantage of your lady's. double entendre?

on a Criterion note, i watched Harakiri the other night and man, that is a damn fine movie. If that, Double Suicide and Ugetsu could find their way to blu soon, that'd make me a happy captain. Kwaidan and Jigoku too, while they are at it.

Thanks for the input! She has discussed that with me. Since that wouldn't link my preorders with her account, I would have to cancel them and "re-pre-order" them through her account (is that even a word? )

I'm willing to do that....just more work on my part.

Rich, I don't know if you know anyone with an .edu e-mail account. They get Prime for free (like I was telling you about my wife) and she can extend that offer to 2 other people, hence me. I have a completely separate account from hers, even though she is the 'main' holder.
