I usually just bite the bullet and pay the normal price for them, or I get them from a third party seller for slightly cheaper. The sales are obviously great ways to pick up several for cheap too.

I often think about buying 15-20 of the more popular titles during one of these larger sales, then selling them to Canadians at cost (+ shipping of course ) but whenever I get ready to pull the trigger, I just see myself getting ripped off, or ending up selling them for a loss because nobody wants them......

I have a feeling that with taxes and duties taken into account, the only way for a Canadian to really get a similar deal on Criterion titles is to have an American friend physically bring them to their doorstep, or to drive into the U.S. once a year and buy them here, then take them back home. Of course, that's assuming the Canadian(s) in question live close enough to the border for either trip to be economical...

I usually buy them when they're like $13-$17 on Amazon.com, it costs me about $20 per disc, which is probably the best you can get here in Canada.

odd thread to ask the question in... but it's kind of a "protective coating" from some @ss jack making an account and then spamming us all to hell with random threads.

so for "actual" new members, you gotta post and show that you are a real, normal human being and then after a certain number of posts, then you can make a thread.

it's actually good logic. and welcome to the site.

Problem is I only buy Blu.

A few Crits are 27,50$ on Amazon.ca so it boils down to 31$ shipped.

I don't think I've seen a better looking bluray than The Thin Red Line!

Nah, I'm not from Canada, but I was just assuming that Canadian Criterion releases would be around the same price as US ones. US prices aren't that much better either. In my opinion, Criterion releases are worth the $30+.

I did my first (so no hate) Criterion cover. Don't know how to apply the "Wacky C", so help would be nice. Here is what I have:

No, I mean when there's that super special on Amazon.com (US) where the Criterion blu are really cheap. I remember paying like $13 for Pierrot Le Fou. Sure you gotta pay the shipping but it's still the best deal you can get in Canada. (average is a little more than $20 per disc)

Very cool...well done. I love the shades of grey you have used. I imagine to get the "Wacky C" you would have to copy and paste it from either a real cover or another fake cover. That is what I would do, at least.

I think that was The 400 Blows and was an extreme anomaly, most of the good deals were just under $20. And that was a long time ago anyway, before Amazon's prices started to suck so badly. If you only buy Criterion Blu-rays when they're $17-20 you must not buy very much, because that pretty much never happens anymore. Nowadays you're lucky if it's under $25.

Rashomon will be the next Kurosawa blu. The restoration was done a while ago. It can't come any sooner either (the restoration print is immaculate).

Happy Birthday, Kurosawa

They aren't playing a huge marathon of Liz Taylor films yet?
