I can hold off for the Criterion Brazil release even if it is 1-2 yrs away on BLU. I think Universal always releases their edition first. Same thing with Fear and Loathing... I waited for the Criterion. I never did buy the Universal edition.

I don't know that I "waited" for Criterion on Fear and Loathing as much as I didn't put a high enough priority on it based on the fact that I had the Criterion DVD, and reviews of the Universal BD..... so I just never got around to buying it.....

Brazil, given a decent transfer, will be purchased.

Yeah, mine is an unpopular opinion.

Criterion hopes to release Brazil on blu-ray!

Per a personal email to a criterionforum.org member:

"We do hope to re-release [Brazil] on Blu-ray in 2011 or 2012 but don't have an exact date set, so please stay tuned!"

Part of my purchasing formula demands that I buy a Criterion release every time I order BD's, which is usually 4 at a time, however also part of my formula is ordering a movie I've never seen, and I think that might have to be another Criterion release as well.

Two movies that have been recommended several times to me over the years:

Paris, Texas
Wings of Desire

I can't choose.

For those that get "Flix" movie channel, they are running "Paris, Texas" right now until 10:00 PM.

CG, is that a screenshot from Pather Panchali?? It doesn't look like it. I'm not a facebook guy, so didn't check out any comments...

The Music Room sounds more like it. Oh and I take back my comment about liking this year's releases more than last, because it's going to take alot more than 2-3 films to overtake Red Desert, Close-Up, Dillinger, War Trilogy, and the von Sternberg silents. Maybe if they FINALLY release some Rivette (Paris Belongs to Us, which I believe they have from Janus. I would really like L'amour fou.), then I will say that.

Summer Hours I loved, because of its simple but realistic take on a family dealing with loss and how we look at material items in the wake of such a loss. Originally commissioned by the Musee D'Orsay, I find the film to be one that is easy to relate to.
I would place Summer Hours very highly on my list of best movies from the past few years. I think it works on the level you describe, but I also think it deals with family, memory, and the function of art in our daily lives in a way that I don't see addressed very often.

I loved Army of Shadows.

Paris Texas is a slow burn for me. It ages exceptionally well in my memory and I look forward to finding the time to watch it again.

Everlasting Moments is a good movie, but it is the only blind bought Criterion I have that I often consider selling. If someone was at my house and offered me what I paid for it, I probably would.

I guess I will wait for Brazil to come to CC. Unless the universal is a good transfer and super cheap.

I know a lot of people want Brazil but I can wait. I'd much rather have some Rivette, some more Resnais and an upgrade like Battle of Algiers.

I too could care less for it, but I would think that would be a given around here for me to start "trouble" if I was the 1st to say that, with the whole "can't wait until the 2nd blu-ray of a film comes out instead of something like Rivette!".

There are many films I want more than Brazil. Doesn't mean I'm not looking forward to Brazil. This isn't super hard math.

CC
I never bought the DVD, but am considering the BD, as it's an "intelligent" film about Jesus Christ, directed by a director that I respect, and is very fairly priced.

Hey CC...I was able to order Naruse boxset directly from MoC. I'm psyched!
