No way. I'm with you there. As far as upgrades go there are many more films that should be released first. Maybe I'm biased because I saw BRAZIL shortly after I read 1984 and I prefer the book.

I loved Army of Shadows.

Paris Texas is a slow burn for me. It ages exceptionally well in my memory and I look forward to finding the time to watch it again.

Everlasting Moments is a good movie, but it is the only blind bought Criterion I have that I often consider selling. If someone was at my house and offered me what I paid for it, I probably would.

I guess I will wait for Brazil to come to CC. Unless the universal is a good transfer and super cheap.
Nice comments! I especially agree about Paris, Texas being a film that ages well in memory--to me, it's a film that's difficult to get out of my mind. I also agree about Summer Hours having more to it than I stated. I think it's a deceptively simple film, due to its straight-forward nature. But I think its timeless themes that practically everyone can relate to lends it a degree of complexity.

Just curious...
Seen it, don't own it, and I'm what millions and millions would call "not religious". Agnosticism would be the word now I guess, but I just live my life not stressing over things that no one can control or know the truth to (I still HOPE for things, just don't follow other's beliefs, as everyone here clearly sees on an everyday basis.). I'm also not one to bash others if they are religious, even if some's stupidity of thinking "non-religion" = the Christian's "Devil", in which that is still a form of Christianity. I meet alot of people that think that way. But back to just films themselves, I watch alot (since pretty much 80% of films deal with viewpoints of the filmmakers' beliefs) of religious films, just when it comes to Ray, They Live By Night is my personal high.

If Criterion releases this after Universal does (just like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas), hopefully that'll mean that Criterion gets a chance to do Spartacus right. The Universal version will probably look mediocre, giving their track record with catalog titles, and won't include the supplements from the Criterion DVD version. I'll stick with my CC DVD until hopefully Criterion will release it on Blu-ray.

Man, now I'll be faced with a decision since I don't own Brazil in any format. Do I go for the Universal release (barring bad reviews on quality)--with the knowledge that I would double-dip if/when Criterion releases it... or do I sit tight and wait for the if/when Criterion releases it?

Decisions, decisions... and thankfully one that won't need to be made for a while.

I just ordered the dvd on ebay for 19.98 with shipping a few days ago. That makes this the second movie I buy in less than 7 days that gets announced it is being released on US bluray soon. Though equilibrium was just the dutch version where this was the dvd criterion. I'll definitly skip the universal and just wait for the criterion.

So I have a really general question about Criterion it may have been discussed before Ive only been around since the low 900s. Do most who collect criterion want new stuff that hasnt been released at all, upgraded blu rays of existing DVDs already released, or restoring more films that should be released as a criterion movie.

I'm sure it's a little of everything for most people.

1) New stuff... Does that mean "newer production" films or just new to Criterion... new to DVD... new to Region 1/Region A? I'm all for films that haven't been released in English-friendly editions anywhere in the world. I have about 13 Ingmar Bergman films on DVD from the UK that haven't been released on DVD in the USA, but that doesn't mean that I need Criterion to release them when the films already have decent releases from Tartan UK.

2) Upgrades... Everybody, obviously, has his/her own favorites that are already in the collection but would like upgraded to blu-ray.

3) Restored films... I'm taking this to mean older films that need rescuing by Criterion... so, with that in mind, Criterion does this to a certain degree, but I think that Criterion is better at reinvigorating interest in "forgotten" films that have probably fallen off the radars of most people.

On this note I agree. Criterion does a lot of digital cleanup, but they do little (if any?) actual archival restoration of the films they release on DVD/BD.

I don't think that's necessarily true. Criterion's parent company, Janus Films (whose titles are distributed by Criterion in an apparently symbiotic relationship), has been involved in major restorations for years now, like The Red Shoes.

Looks like I won't be getting the March titles in...well... March

Criterion shipped them out via USPS and the last update was "sorted" in Louisville KY on the 28th, and they weren't in today's mail

I hope the next three shipments from them go a little better than this one.... I have cover-art that needs oggling!!

Well, yes, but that's the parent company, even if it's splitting hairs.

these are all IFC Films, so they would have seen R1 releases with or without Criterion. Actually, Revanche might not be, but I think someone would have put it out anyway.

Any idea if the Black Swan Target exclusive is the same case used for Criterions? Doesn't have to be exact but might be good option for replacement (cant tell from pics)

No. It's a standard blu-ray case.

Like what Eny- said... it's a standard-sized blu-ray case, only clear.
