Here, go to this link, click films, find this title. When you click on the film, it will show you the extras that will be on it.

http://www.wegotpowerfilms.com/

or here they are:

• 42 minute Bonus Movie entitled "(This Is Known As) The Blues Scale" with previously unseen mind-blowing Sonic & Nirvana performances (including "Inhuman", "White Kross", "Orange Rolls/Angel's Spit", "Eric's Trip", "Chapel Hill", and "In Bloom") and plenty of revelatory and rockin' (and hilarious) never before seen off-stage and on-stage material

• Running audio commentary track by Thurston Moore & Dave Markey

• Rough Edits of performance material

• 2003 Panel Discussion (on the film) at the Arclight in Hollywood, with Thurston Moore, Dave Markey, Lee Ranaldo, Steve Shelley, and J. Mascis

• A photo slide show

• Theatrical trailer

• More surprises!

This is a bit OT (and by 'a bit' I mean completely) but does anybody have any feedback on 36 Quai des Orfevres?

It looks like a US release is coming in June and Amazon has it up for preorder for fourteen bucks.

I'm far from an expert on Melville but I think you might be mistaken, at least in the case of the existing releases of Le Samourai and particularly Army of Shadows (from a restoration supervised by the DP so it carries some weight), they are much more green and beige, not blue. I don't think the colours on the Criterion are optimal, the saturation is somewhat high, but I do believe it comes closer than the alternative. The blue cast on the StudioCanal version doesn't look good to me, and certainly nothing like the above two movies.

I'm less than thrilled with the cover of Jean Cocteau's "Beauty and the Beast." Why didn't they go with the last edition's artwork? It was great. Still, I'm overjoyed it is going blu.

The blue(ish) tint may not look good to you, but it is indeed correct, and what director Melville favored for many of his films. On the Studio Canal disc, Prof. Ginette Vincendeau, who is an expert on director Melville and his work, specifically addresses the color-scheme of Le Cercle Rouge.

Additionally, quite some time ago the Criterion team revealed that they have indeed pushed the colors of the film a bit too much (for the SDVD release, which has a practically identical color-scheme to the one you see on the BD).

Melville films are the most difficult to render in video, and it’s easy to forget that Melville and Decaë wanted muted colors. It’s so tempting to push the color further than it should be on these films. Even with a reference print on Le cercle rouge, we may have gone a little too far with saturation.
http://www.criterion.com/current/pos...n-lenfance-nue

All in all, Melville's color films have always looked muted, cold, and dark (qualities that are attributed exactly to that cold bluish tint), so there really isn't much to debate, in my opinion, as to which release of Le Cercle Rouge has the correct color-scheme, as intended by director Melville.

+1 - as Vincendeau says, Melville wanted to make black and white films in colour and the steely blues and grey help achieve that. Criterion's Rouge just looks like a normal colour film.

Pyoko - also check out the Criterion forum review of Army of Shadows; it makes reference to this.

And the good people at Criterion came through...

So incredibly happy and excited... If this transfer is given the "Yojimbo" treatment, as it should be, I'll be satisfied beyond explanation.

Actually, looking at the DVDBeaver comparison it seems they dulled it down quite a bit for the Blu-ray.

I'll check it out.

I just find it a bit odd. I don't in any way dispute that the films should be dull with muted colours, but I don't see much of any steely blues or colours like the SC Rouge in Le Samourai or Army of Shadows.

For example compare this shot from AoS to the two from Rouge. Top one being Criterion, which is much closer in my opinion:

(Caps from DVDBeaver.)

I realize this is a fallacy because it's assuming the films should look similar, but it doesn't seem like a stretch. And taking this into account I don't feel the Criterion should immediately be disregarded as completely incorrect.

Sure, based on 1 film. But they did it to another film as well, removing a blue-green tint for a more reddish tint in Red Desert (which brightens the image, so quick eyes would think it is correct, which isn't what a director intends). In that case, no one knows which one is correct and just have opinions from film stills, etc.

Criterion should get credit too though, because they seem to keep L’enfance nue close when everyone was jumping them for how yellow it looked (Criterion said it was correct based on their research though.).

Agreed.

"You think he's gone?! He's not gone. That's the whole point! He's never gone!
"Is this some radical new therapy?"
"You see!"

The fact that Dreyfuss hated Murray makes it even funnier.

I've been at my local Newbury Comics since they opened at 10am. I picked up a few used $3.99 DVDs plus got 30%-off each one. It's difficult to buy any music these days since it's so widely available for free on the internet. If I were still into vinyl, and a hoarder, I would've picked up some good stuff today... but, I didn't. Even all of the free stuff (CDs, stickers, posters, vinyl, etc.) was garbage to me... so many compilations of what I think are terrible bands. The live music started around 2pm, which was a one-man, guitar-drum-playing act trying to conjure '60s garage rock. After that I was witness to two different acoustic guitar-playing guys that made me want to kill myself. I'd had enough at that point and came home. Maybe I'll go back out to see if any better music is playing.

You are entitled to have an opinion, and I respect it. However, detail and colors are always filtered there, thus not representative of what is on the disc.

As Mr.Godard/SpiderBaby has noted, this isn't the first time Criterion have tweaked the color-scheme on a film they feel should look in a certain way (typically, for specific classic Italian and French color films they have a tendency to favor red and redish nuances). Their Army of Shadows release, for instance, is the most accurate one, especially when compared to to the transfer Canal distributed in Europe - and even that release has been tweaked. In other words, you could choose whichever release you like more, but as far as "correct" is concerned, Criterion's release isn't.

And I would be the first person here to defend it/them, if it was.

I got the Velvets single because I wanted Foggy Notion on vinyl. Everything else didn't interest me. I'm not into contemporary music, but I have been listening to The Kills here and there. I don't know why them and not any other indie/hipster band, but I sense alot of Velvet Underground meets Sonic Youth in them. Plus Alison Mosshart prob has the best stage presence of any front man (or girl) of this era. But then again, I don't listen to much music these days (only the old stuff) so I don't know alot.
