I have a video guide from the twilight of the VHS era called Seen That, Now What? that has capsule reviews of films sorted by genre. Salo's review concludes "Be warned: You won't forget this one and you'll want to."

Be sure to check out the supplements. They talk about this a bit, and how they achieved it.
Which is exactly why the colours on Criterion's Le Cercle Rouge blu are wrong, wrong, wrong

That's high praise. Of the 40 or so Hitchcock's I've seen I think Vertigo is the pinnacle of his career (I have no clue why we don't have that on Blu yet )

Vertigo would be #2 in my book. For me though The Lady Vanishes is the perfect mix of suspense, mystery, humor, wonderful characters, and old time filmmaking. Plus Margaret Lockwood gives my favorite performance of all the Hitchcock women. Criterion get on the upgrade now.

Best Buy

It has been a while since Best Buy has stocked in new releases from Criterion and it looks like that both Blow Out and Fear and Loathing will be stocked at Best Buy stores. Availabilty is noted as Coming Soon. I wouldn't be surprised if some find the titles in store early.

When I was at BB last Thursday they had several Criterions. I think I counted 6 titles, which was easy to do considering they were all filed in "C" under "Criterion".

They have stocked former titles, but I think since Charade was released they seemed to no longer get new release titles. I figured a more well known film would have been stocked like Fear and Loathing, and possibly Blow Out. It was always fun to get your hands on some titles early. They were notorious for 1-2 weeks being out sometimes depending.

I got my copy of KES today from amazon it has a Dir Approved by Ken Loach Signature sticker for those curious.

You found out what happened to all my former employees. I wondered where they would find an employer who truly appreciates their "special gifts."

just saw over on the 'ol facebook that some people were complaining about the serial number/upc sticker criterion was placing on their replacement cases. i seem to recall one or two people here mentioning them too. here's an update from them:

Sorry for the trouble! Checked on this, here's the scoop: there was a mix up at the warehouse. They accidentally used the wrong stickers on a recent batch. We provided them with ones we tested that come off easily. They have pulled all the offending stickers from stock and we've temporarily taken the inventory down. They will replenish with new cases (using the same wraps) with the correct stickers. If you are continue to have problems or have a replacement case damaged by the sticker, please contact Jon Mulvaney (mulvaney@criterion.com) and he will get you sorted out.

Best Buy is weird. They stocked Red Desert and Black Orpheus and then did not stock Seven Samurai. Out of all of Criterion's titles, I figured they would carry Seven Samurai, but no.

However, SS was released right around the time they stopped carrying any new Criterion releases. I'm assuming some of the more obscure titles didn't sell (those same copies are still collecting dust on the shelves), so someone decided to simply stop carrying Criterions in store.

Is that even possible? The Facebooks crowd just exists to request titles already available on Region 1 blu-ray and Wes Anderson films.... I guess I answered my question. They probably don't even open their films so cases are a big deal to them.

Agreed.

Rushmore and M. Hulot's Holiday are two of my most hoped for upgrades from Criterion.
