White Material disappointed me as well. Just another waste of time IFC title. There are far better Denis/IFC films Criterion could have spent their time on.

Also I just realized how close we are to Solaris
My logic is quite sound. I'm comfortable with Criterion and the Canal disc won't play on my PS3.

Have we, as a forum, decided on the Wacky Ghost Horse image that was sent earlier? Was it Au hasard Balthazar or The Phantom Carriage?

Thanks!

It's The Phantom Carriage. It's one of the many unreleased titles that Criterion has put on their Hulu page.

I doubt Criterion would give us a newsletter clue these days that was simply going to be a blu-ray upgrade.

Thanks for the info, although they did it with Fear and Loathing...

I looked up Phantom Carriage and it looks very intriguing...even more so than Balthazar.

Has anyone here seen it yet?

I didn't say I didn't like it...just wasn't as "bowled over" by it as I had originally expected to be.

I've thought that about a number of films on first viewings.

With White Material, I have the luxury of streaming it again when I'm ready for a second viewing.

Believe it or a not, a person can appreciate a movie even without thinking it is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Thank you...couldn't have phrased that any better.

Sliced bread is highly overrated.... a nice ciabatta torn by hand is alright in my book.

Should I get the Criterion Sliced Bread or the StudioCanal Sliced Bread?

Criterion Sliced bread is multi-grain, high in fiber and contains no High Fructose Corn Syrup and may not always taste great, but not only will you feel better about yourself, you'll learn to appreciate its performance and soon prefer its taste above all else

StudioCanal Sliced Bread is made with enriched white flour, high fructose corn syrup and chemical fillers. It may taste great, but your body (and mind) will hold a grudge against your choice.

But without your StudioCanal Slice Bread, there would be no Criterion Slice Bread.

Also the Criterion Slice Bread seems to fall down in between places, like in Tiny Furniture.

Haha, very true. While I'm not too familiar with "Tiny Furniture", the consensus on this board seems to be in the negative.

The Criterion's Three Reasons made me even more psyched about The Great Dictator. I can't wait for that one.

I think many are just disappointed the brilliant Certified Copy may not get a release.

In the case of Le Cercle Rouge, and if you have a region-free player, go with the Studio Canal. The only thing that i miss on this edition is the Ginette Vincendeau commentary (the bd comes only with a filmed introduction), which is the reason that i kept my Optimum DVD (the dvd also comes with the Rui Nogueira interview that comes in the Criterion Blu-Ray).

Yeah you can appreciate a movie, doesn't mean you have to spend money to own it. If it isn't something you really like, and can see yourself rewatching, I don't see the point in buying it.
