That's what I thought. It's a bummer that it isn't available. I would love to watch the movie, but can't really justify buying it right now.

Edit: Never mind, it looks like my library has a copy...one of the benefits of working for a university!

Well, I can afford them, but I've spent a lot on movies this month:

Tron & Tron Legacy 3D $32
Taxi Driver & The Incredibles $22
M and The Seventh Seal $36

This is triple my normal monthly movie budget!!!

My wife's gonna shoot me. I guess I should go load the gun for her before she gets home.

Apologies if this has been talked about before, but I see that Criterion now actually sells the replacement cases for the digipacks in their online store for $5 each. Is that the only way to get them? If so then shipping for all 9 to Canada makes the order $96!!!! I don't care if I was on the other side of the planet, $50+ for shipping is ridiculous... Especially when Kino for example offers free shipping on orders over $50. Ah well...

Does Criterion ship to Canada via order place through their store? I'm not aware if Canada falls under the "international" Criterion law, or not.

I remember when Criterion first began offering the replacement cases via PayPal it was like $15 for the first two case for international orders. Extra cases placed within the same order were discounted to $2.50 per case. For all nine cases, your grand total would've been $47.50 under the original pricing. I'm not sure if Canada was considered "international" at that time, but then I recall Criterion stopped shipping the replacement cases internationally. Shipping was included in all of these prices at the time, as well.

Since the replacement cases have been offered in Criterion's store, though, the ordering guidelines of their storefront have applied. This, of course, means everyone has to pay for shipping on the cases now. As far as I know, this is the only way to obtain the cases with the artwork.

They still have not put back the clear cases with no artwork. CC or CG, didn't one of you post information about when those will be back up a week or so ago? They had the 6 for $12 if I remember.

And while I applaud the many new Criterion virgins getting their first taste on the sale, I have to ask:
Why is everyone so happy about getting The Seventh Seal?

(And yes, I have seen it, that's why I'm asking.)

Probably because it's a beautiful film available in a superb, insightful package.

I could be wrong though.

Movies are subjective. I was totally entranced by that film both times I've watched it. First for the movie itself, and the second time for the appreciation of its craftsmanship. I'm also a pretty big Max Von Sydow fan.

That's cool if you didn't like it. We don't all like/dislike the same movies for the same reasons. If we did, movie debates would be pretty dull.

The Seventh Seal was $15 a few summers ago (before price tracking).

I believe our EricJ is joking folks. thus the grin.

I think what he means, to translate, is that the 7th Seal, although a great film, doesn't necessarily make you feel "happy" at the end....! That's all...

We might as well be, with 20 dollar shipping on most items. Hence me sticking with Amazon US and Canada, as they seem to compete with each other on various releases. Monterey Pop is 10 bucks less in Canada (59.99) than the US right now. From Criterion directly is even less, but adding 20 bucks shipping is nuts. Only issue with Canadian Amazon is the 15% sales tax, but it's still less than US import fees and shipping.

It wasn't me. I'm not sure what happened to the blank cases that were briefly on the site. I keep thinking to ask Criterion, but I don't. I'll ask them through Twitter right now and see if I get a response.

I never knew they started the clear cases yet.

1. I posted that they said a month ago they will sell clear cases.

2. Then I remember posting about them removing the replacement cases from their site to remove that barcode on them.

So this 6 clear cases for $12 is news to me, and can't wait until there back on now. Thanks for your info.

not to start a plastic case discussion, but...

they had them on the site for a week or so, then took them off. As we all know, the blu-ray sized ones are impossible to find. I wanted to pick up 12 or so, as I am tired of e-mailing Mulvaney when amazon or B&N conveniently breaks one for me.

I should go in on a 1,000 case order. I'd make a fortune re-selling them.

I also just sent an e-mail to Mulvaney asking the same thing. Are you happy now?
