Anyone have this? I tried searching for it, but there's way too many posts here and not a single thread about the film in the forum.

Just curious about everyone's thoughts regarding the transfer.
I won't comment on the film, as I'm biased since I spend more than two years writing a Malick thesis. The blu, however, I will comment on. It is, quite simply, the best transfer ever produced on blu-ray in terms of PQ and AQ for a live action film. Yes, it's that good. It's so good that even if you've watched hundreds of blus, you'll still have to pick your jaw up from the floor.

I can't decide which to order first. M or The Seventh Seal.

Probably completely different movies but I want to start watching/collecting these types. Most films now fall into the "formula" and I would like to try something different.

Anyone have a suggestion? Maybe take a look at my collection and make a guess based on that?
I already have The Thin Red Line and love it.

The reason I mentioned those two is because of the sale on Amazon and they look interesting.

I'd go with M personally.

Same here but I ended up ordering both cause I've heard and read good things about both films and they're on sale right now. Don't want to regret it once the price goes back up or I'll be .

M is a much better blind buy candidate in general and based on the number of serial killers in your collection I'd say it's probably a pretty good fit for you specifically.

Which is not to say it's a standard formula serial killer drama - it's definitely not.

Rififi (Arrow Films) Review

I saw this on TCM a few weeks ago and it was very good and the review of this release is just glowing. I'd prefer to hold out for a Region A Criterion release but if that doesn't pan out I'll be picking this up sooner or later (I'm in the process of retasking my HTPC as a region B player).

This would be a nice addition indeed.

That's a dumbed-down abomination and hopefully never happens.

Quoted for truth. The Thin Red Line Criterion blu is a stunning package all round.

Like others have said, the A/V transfer is immaculate. The disc also has a decent amount of supplements, including 14 minutes of outtakes (unusual for a Malick film).

I'd probably wait to pick it up during the B&N sale if you could though.

Paths of Glory shipped early! It's going to show up on the day it was originally suppose to ship.

German release of "M" might be better than the one of Criterion.

It would be a great double-feature with Blow Out.
I heard it was coming via Lionsgate, a la Apocalypse Now...don't remember a date, nor have I heard anything since. I think it was on digitalbits that I read this a long time ago...

LOL, you're right. That's what I ended up doing in the end. I streamed about 5 minutes of both last night to get a little feel for them and couldn't resist.

I'm thinking about getting The Magician next or Yojimbo/Sanjuro.

For what it's worth...got my copy of "Smiles of a Summer Night" and cover insert was undamaged. The worse I've gotten so far has been "bubbled" clear plastic cover and a small tear on Army of Shadows booklet. We all get the occasional dings on the edges of the booklets, due to the bumping of the booklet into plastic corners.

Thanks for the answer. Saw it at bestbuy.com and was going to jump on the $30 tag but now I feel safe waiting until the Criterion Sale in July @ B&N

You absolutely need to jump on Yojimbo/Sanjuro! Not only has Yojimbo influenced loads of movies, but Akira Kurosawa rules. I've wanted to get The Magician, as well, but after seeing how many Criterion movies went on sale since about a week ago, I'd definitely wait until the price for the Magician drops (unless you hear any news about it going OOP).

Yojimbo/Sanjuro is on sale at its lowest price on Amazon, $28.99. The Magician, on the other hand, is currently priced at $29.99.

Buying Yojimbo/Sanjuro is actually the same exact thing as buying them individually, aside from the lower price. They are simply the Yojimbo and Sanjuro blu-rays in their individual cases, both slid into a cardboard case.

There are other great movies on Sale from Criterion right now, as well. The one's I jumped on were among those ranging between $17 and $19.

I ordered:

Paths of Glory
8 1/2
M
Modern Times
Le Cercle Rouge
Army of Shadows
Sweet Smell of Success

They have other great movies for that low price, though. I'd recommend The Seventh Seal, Breathless, and Wings of Desire.

Just watched "Blow Out" the amount of grain in the dark scenes is excessive and unbearable. Any thoughts here?? I found this BD almost unwatchable.
