Hard to say - it may not have been their choice. Andrew HD on the Bicycle Thieves UK thread recently pointed out that although different companies may rely on the same scan/restoration, different masters can be struck from this. Arrow buys the rights to use the masters and try to source the best looking ones. Michael B also chimed in with another example for the BFI's Salo - they discovered to their horror that DNR had been applied at the time of telecine, and at that stage there was nothing they could do.

And without drawing a connection, I'd address the comments about THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE. Once you've got past the queasy premise, you're home and dry, and it's actually a pretty hilarious mad-scientist movie that wouldn't be out of place on a modern version of a set like MONSTERS AND MADMEN.

Other than that, how was the play, Mrs Lincoln?

Just ordered Chungking Express from Amazon.

Anyone know if it's a clear case release or the digipack version?

They also have no extras and the feature is almost the entire disc, typically a 21 or 22gb size. Blow Out was on a 50gb disc, but the feature is 22gb. Thankfully it has a nice set of extras to justify the price. Criterion has never used a 25gb disc on any of their releases. Bottom line is that a 50gb disc costs almost 5 times as much to use as a 25gb disc. IMO, when these top-notch companies are putting out classics and then charging $20+, they need to open up the disc and have some quality extras. Some of these films are getting the Scream trilogy treatment. Seems to me that they are counting bytes to save money.

Depression...I had to cancel my orders for M, The Seventh Sign and Sanjuro/Yojimba. Something came up and I had to do the responsible thing (I could have paid for them but..well you know) I doubt anyone would know but when does this sale end?

Well thanks to Amazons huge Criterion sale lasting longer than I had expected, I was finally able to order the last of the sale BDs last night.

It looks like I am going to have a ton of movie watching to do here shortly.

Ha, Ha, I always get those two titles confused.

What you don't think that film warrants the criterion treatment? LOL.

I just ordered Fellini's Amacord and The Red Shoes! I hope I'll like them.
There are quite a few Criterions that I am interested in getting, but they are not included in the sale.

They should release it with Army of Darkness.

I received Au revoir les enfants fm Amazon yesterday and the label inside the clear plastic case seems to be askew. Has anyone had the same problem? It's kind of a hassle, but I suppose I should do a return w/Amazon.

I finally broke down and bought a copy of The Third Man off Ebay. I am still kicking myself for not buying it in stores. Here is to hoping it arrives in good shape!

Since it's practically custom around here, I've gotta ask, what was the damage?

$100 Even. Brutal, but I love the movie and the collection, so I had to have it. I haven't been able to find a much better deal in a long time unfortunately.

If I had known, I could have saved you some money. Glad you were able to get one though.
