Good Point, it is a relief to not worry about it anymore!

Looking for some insight on any of these titles. I have read the reviews for each already and I just wanted some more thoughts from others on them...

Still Walking
YiYi
Senso
Topsy Turvy
and possibly The Mikado

These are the only ones from the sale that I do not have but am interested in.

On your list, I have seen Still Walking and Senso. I cannot say enough good things about Still Walking. It is a quietly powerful and often touchingly humorous look at a family gathering on an anniversary of the oldest son's death. It really surprised me, because I had my doubts I would like it from reading the description and the reviews, not really what I would normally go for. The whole film has an intimacy to it that is very real. And although the dialog is very well done, I especially liked how the director frequently used the camera to show detail and mood without dialog.

Senso is good, too, more like a Gone With the Wind style of melodrama feel to it. Being that I am a history buff, I really appreciate films that strive to capture a period in time and its details, and the Austro-Hungarian Empire is an interest of mine.

If it were a choice between the two, I would select Still Walking, just because it has stuck with me more than the other and I would revisit it more often.

Topsy Turvy and Yi Yi sit on my shelf unwatched at the moment due to my blu-ray player being out for warranty repair. I have a feeling I will like both, but am most looking forward to watching Topsy Turvy for the first time.

Default Blow Out or Broadcast News

In order to not exceed the customs limit in my country, I have to choose between one of these titles. Which one would you recommend?

I'm not much of a DePalma fan, and I really love Broadcast News, so that gets my vote.

I watched Le Cercle Rouge last night and really enjoyed it, although I found the ending a little
[Show spoiler]abrupt, especially how measured every other beat in the film seems to be.

And how did the escaped prisoner just show up at the end? Was there more than bad vibes that tipped him off?

I have to say I really miss having a commentary track on this one.

finished Army of Shadows for the first time this morning. all i can say is it was very

didn't do much for me. the ending was good though, i liked that. will be keeping it in my collection so i can revisit it later on and see if my feelings change on it. i'm not one to watch a film once and then rush out to sell it if i dislike it. i like to watch a film 4 or 5 times before deciding on a score and deciding if it's worth keeping.

but, glad i only spent $19 on it instead of $30, that would have likely pissed me off more, but i am eager to watch the special features included.

Hey does anyone want to trade Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas for Fish Tank?

pm me.

And a question is M & the Paths of glory amazing as everyone describes it to be? Also Red Shoes? What kind of genre is it? Is it a thriller?

I added Broadcast News and The Leopard to my collection today. It's shipping tomorrow. My dad wanted Gone to Texas on DVD, so it was an excuse for me to order more Criterions! Good thing I did so today, since it's the last day of the sale. Paths of Glory should be showing up on Tuesday.

Idioteque, I really enjoyed Paths Of Glory, Kirk Douglas is brilliant plus Criterion have done an ace job on the transfer, as for Red Shoes, I suppose it is a kind of thriller, more of a drama to be honest, great film that I am proud to own

Although I like Broadcast News quite a bit, I have to say there is no comparison between it and Blow Out. I guess it would come down to what genre of film you are more into at the present time. You could not do much better in the thriller/suspense type of film then Blow Out. (plus Blow Out offers much more repeat viewing opportunities due to the layered screenplay IMO)

It's funny, the first time I saw it (on the Eureka DVD) I didn't really like it all that much. That probably also had to do with the subtitles, which went by extremely fast (for my liking) and were difficult to read. But when I saw it on the Eureka Blu-ray, I finally noticed how good it was. It's pace is surprisingly quick, especially for a movie from 1931. And I definitely love it now.

Thanks. I was browsing through Criterions again, and as soon as I read Fellini I knew this was it. I am not drawn to 8 1/2, but I think I'll enjoy this one.

Default Kiss Me Deadly on TCM

I saw Kiss Me Deadly for the first time friday night on TCM. I'd say one of the best film noir's I have ever seen. The quality on TMC was fair at best, and I should think that the Criterion BD will be up there with Sweet Smell of Success, Paths of Glory, and Night of the Hunter in A/V presentation.

June 21st will be well worth the wait.

Practically never. The end of 2009 was the last time they had a larger number of Criterions under $20.
