I can't speak for "Black Swan" (as I didn't see it), but what's the problem with "The King's Speech". Not only is it a "film" (we don't call them "movies" on this thread), but even if it's "not for you", it was a historically accurate and entertaining look at someone attempting to overcome a disability.

What did you not like about it?

Sorry to go OT Beta...

Has anyone here (US based) dealt with Zavvi? If so, what has your experience been? How long have deliveries taken on average (free delivery)? Are the prices listed inclusive of VAT and/or are these factored out after completing checkout.

Thanks!

Nuts! Missed it! But for me and others who may have missed Kiss Me Deadly, TCM is airing it on TUESDAY, JUNE 28 @ 06:00 PM (in case you want to check it out before putting down your cash for the Criterion disc).

June 21st will be well worth the wait.

Nah, I don't take issue or question the ending thematically, just the nuts and bolts of its plot points.

Default Criterion blu-ray case

Hello Friends!

I'm a new member here! Love this site! Gotta quick question: I need a blu-ray case for one of my Criterion titles. It has a crack in it along the top. I emailed and called Criterion and got no response. Does anyone have a mint Criterion blu-ray case they can sell me? Thanks guys! -HB73

Thanks!
Just imported a couple of movies from them last month (BFI titles on sale for £5!), and they arrived in less than 10 business days, each of the blus shipped in a cardoboard box but the cases/movies themselves were in good condition. The prices on the website include VAT and are subtracted at checkout, provided you don't live in the UK/EU. Would definitely hit them up again.

THANKS Cinemach!

I went ahead and ordered "Saturday Night and Sunday Morning" as a test. VERY pleased to hear that it sounds about the same wait as I've had with Amazon UK...but not the shipping cost.

The price was 5.85 BSP, which would be about $9.75 USD. The price remained the same during and after checkout, so I'll be curious to see if anything will be discounted when they ship (dispatch).

Whether they do or not, it's still cheaper than it had been on Amazon UK.

Thanks for posting that!

I know there was talk in the past of Criterion putting up the replacement cases...so this worked out perfect for me, since I needed two of them.

It was not historically accurate. In fact one of the main criticisms, was that it deliberately changed and omitted facts for no real reason. Particularly Churchill's position on Edward and the matter of appeasement.

Not that I need to spend more on this sale, but I'm circling getting Fish Tank and The Mikado. any thoughts? I've heard fish tank is good, but has some problems plotwise, and the mikado I'm curious of since I got Topsy-turvy.

The "problem" is that there is no plot. You're watching life happen on your television screen. I don't consider it a problem, though. Don't go into it expecting a nice story... just go along for the ride and I think you'll find something to enjoy about it.

Today the UPS man brought Amarcord and The Double Life of Veronique. Waiting on Paths of Glory, Army of Shadows Yojimbo/Sanjuro and Le Cercle Rouge. Oy...

Last week he brought Wings of Desire. Oy...
I've seen Paths, Cercle and Army. The rest were blind buys (or "bought on faith" as I like to say).

Now if I could purchase some time at 1/2 off so I can see all this stuff!

Oh, I know it's got a sense of realism to it. I should restate, by problem with the plot, I meant that I heard that it wasn't quite content with just showing real life and started to engineer the plot into an archetype.

Red face I only ordered four.

I only ordered four, and I didn't spend any cash. I love gift cards. I ordered Army of Shadows, Yi Yi, Still Walking, and Au Revoir Les Enfants. I have not gotten a chance to watch them fully, but I watched parts of 3 of them on Netflix enough to think that I would really enjoy these. Yi Yi was the only true blind buy, but I recently watched part of it, and so far it's great.

Well, I personally didn't get that feeling from the film, but that's what sets us all apart, right? The feeling of it is no different to me than Arnold's first film, Red Road. Did you had a chance to see Red Road, yet? I found that I enjoyed Fish Tank a bit more than Red Road, though.

Stupid college budget caused me to only get two. Topsy-Turvy and Kes. Leigh's film arrived a week ago and Loach's should be here tomorrow.

There is clearly a coming-of-age arc and a dealing with a family friend that I won't spoil for you. So yeah it does have a plot, but it's mostly about the central character. I thought it was very good, but I doubt I'll ever watch it again. I would rent or download it first honestly.
