I would expect the remaining StudioCanal titles, which are kept in print due to "newer" Rialto licenses:

Last Year at Marienbad
Le Cercle Rouge
Army of Shadows

They'll probably be next to go.

Don't really know if this has been answered before but is something a little bit crucial for me. Are there replacement cases available for newe titles that come in digibook presentation? I know the first wave of titles Criterion released back in 2008 got replacement cases later on but I don't really know if they keep doing this for each digibook title. For example, does Amarcord and The Sweet Smell of Success have any kind of clear cases program? I don't mind digibooks but some of mine are getting a bit rough around the edges. Also the fact that clear cases are much more practical for me .

I just went to order a regular blu-ray case (from Criterion.com) for one of my damaged Criterion titles and the total came to $9.11??!! Is that right? For the case it's $2.95 + standard shipping which came to $5.95. Are my eyes deceiving me? That seems like a lot just for a plain case. Plus, I live 90 mins away from Criterion headquarters.

Thanks for that. Pity - not even a slipcover. Will definitely pick it up, though!

Hi,

a question about PQ ( dvd vs. BR ) . I was offered a good deal on these C.C. DVDs : a man who fell to earth, army of shadows, the wages of fear and le cercle rouge.

Is the PQ on these very much better on Blu-Ray than on normal DVDs ? I do not have multiregion Blu-Ray player, so I`m tempted. Or is the difference so big I should wait, if I get multiregion BR player later on ?

I`d like to get C.C. versions because of the excellent extras...

Thank you for help !

What you're basically asking is if a high-def picture is similar enough to a standard definition puicture, and quite honestly, the answer is no. Will you be happy with an SD version of these movies? Only you can answer that for yourself, but there usually is a large difference between the BD and SD versions of many films.

CC masters their movies in HD (don't know if that is the correct terminology) and their SD transfers are quite good, but you must also take into consideration your equipment. That will affect the look of the films on SD vs. BD as well.

If you honestly can't wait, go ahead and pick up the SD versions. You should be pleased enough with the quality of these films, however, if you really feel strongly about it, go ahead and get the multiregion player. There will be other benefits to owning one of those in the future!

Chungking is not available on Amazon and therefore not included in the sale. As good as OOP basically. I want it bad.

Not sure why people keep insisting that Chungking is not available on Amazon, when it is...

http://www.amazon.com/Chungking-Expr...5124216&sr=8-1

To recap, Chungking Express is not out of print. They just switched packaging, so some places were low on stock for a while.

So, if you want it, you can still get it

Never seen The Great Dictator, but I've watched a few scenes of it on Youtube and it looks hysterical. I can't wait to watch it. I wish more Chaplin was on Blu.

You're right, Dwane! That seems to make the most sense. I figured $2.95 for the case and maybe $2.50 tops for first class mail. Oh well. I'll order that 5-pack! Thanks bro! -HB73

Yes, unfortunately every order under $50 on Criterion's site is subject to, at least, a $5.95 shipping charge.

Don't worry, you aren't the first person that has happened to. For a while people were even trying to sell it at exorbitant prices because "out of print."
