Maybe they did it to that release, to keep it sealed better, thanks to the inside picture art.

Since no one cares about the actual films, I will instead report on what is really interesting: the state and condition of the packaging and inserts.

No rips on any of the spines of any of the titles.

Only one had a security title sticker along the top.

One didn't have a Blu-ray sticker on it.

One had a booklet with a single page torn twice, and no other damage whatsoever (not the first time I've encountered this type of curious damage with a sealed Criterion).

None were blind buys so I won't be back publicly marveling at how clever I was to purchase them.
Joe, have you become more curmudgeonly since you changed your avatar? Bring back the happy octo-head dude.

All of mine came in fine too. However, I did have the security sticker stick to the actual disc of Modern Time. It scared the hell out of me but it came off just fine and left no stckyness or damage.

Do you have a link to the article?

If I had to guess, I would say that we will get Wild Strawberries, The Killing and Carlos this month, and hopefully Vigo as well. As far as other titles, I will always guess Passion of Joan of Arc until it happens, and would love to see Ghost World as well.

I've also revisited this movie recently. First off; fantastic transfer! It looks very 'film like' with all that grain. No Spartacus or Patton disasters here!

The film, like Clouzot's Diabolique, is the best Hitchcock film not made by the master of suspence himself if you know what I mean.

I liked the (sexual) tension betwee Hepburn and Grant and laughed my @ss off with all the jokes made about the difference in age which is basically every scene!

I was a little surprised by how much I enjoyed Carlos. It grabbed me right away but I didn't think there was any way in hell they'd be able to hold my interest for over five hours.

Shell...do you or anyone else have the info from that article? I don't have access to the NYTimes online and doubt I could find that copy anywhere.

EDIT: Never mind...saw the post that gave the info...thanks!

Agreed on "Stranger than Paradise" Joe...I wouldn't mind seeing "Night on Earth" as well.

On Aug. 2 Cocteau makes his second home video appearance of the summer with the DVD and Blu-ray release of his “Orpheus.” The same day the complete works of Jean Vigo arrive, including his only feature, “L’Atalante,” one of the most lyrical and profoundly

I'd take Rififi as well...am waiting to see if either CC announces it and/or if the price drops on the Arrow version on Amazon UK.

The Killing is still a favorite of mine and I wouldn't mind if it were next in line. It's a gimme that it's coming out at some point in the near future.

Did someone say Tokyo Story?

Hopefully we get more Jim Jarmusch, especially Broken Flowers and Dead Man.

We're about due for some Hitchcock. Possibly (2) of them announced?

If we are getting Jarmusch, my pick would be Ghost Dog, but really I would take any of them.

Which Hitchcock films do they still have the rights to? Just The Lady Vanishes and The 39 Steps?
