I believe they also have Foreign Correspondent which has been rumored since being dropped from the Warner Bros box set. |

I'd imagine The Lady Vanishes would be the first.
Unfortunately Notrorious is out-of-print because that should be the first Hitchcock they go for. Even so, I'd be ecstatic if they gave us Lady Vanishes/39 Steps in the same month (a la the 2 from P&P last summer). |

Re-watched Red Desert yesterday. Maybe I wasn't in the proper mood but God did I find it tedious this time. It was masterfully composed and photographed, but the actual "story" and characters were totally uninteresting to me. Carrado especially. I couldn't really understand his motives, nor cared to. He was just wandering around, talking slowly, offering half-witted philosophical insights on the world.
Scenes were long, nothing happened, and even though it was most probably supposed to convey a sense of isolation and alienation from the world - or something akin to that - it didn't save the movie from being painful to go through. There were certain scenes that stood above the ensemble, but the characters were mostly void. It may have been another Antonioni exercise on the shalowness of bourgeoisie, but God, let's hope he had something more to offer after devoting three movies to that. I've read on and about the movie, I've seen it twice, but I'm still not convinced. I had the feeling that sometimes Antonioni was just trying too hard. Giuliana's sickness never really felt genuine to me, something was lacking in Vitti's interpretation. One has to display terrible patience to go through her scenes with Richard Harris. Both seemed to have absolutely nothing to say but slow, pseudo-philosophical verbiage. I'll probably get trashed for this. People will tell me I'm not "getting it". But believe me, I am getting it. I'm just not really buying it. These characters did nothing for me. They didn't sound and acted like human beings. I couldn't relate with their problems and sufferings. At least the movie was a visual feast. |

I just saw that too. Looks like that Times article was right about its upcoming releases after all. As this was what was stated too....
