Faultless presentation by the way, and Brian Glover is hilarious as the P.E. teacher.
My girlfriend and I just watched it last weekend. Really enjoyed it. But I must admit, we needed the subtitles to help make out some of the words. Really great stuff though.

Nothing official yet, but it's a pretty poorly kept secret.

As for the Italian Westerns I have seen all of those. You have great taste The Great Silence and Bullet for the general are my two favorite non-Leone Italian Westerns. Have you seen Django: the Bastard? I just saw it tonight and it is really great - good gothic atmosphere.
Haven't seen that one, but "Django Kill... if you live, shoot!" is a great one. I will check it out though. Thanks.

Thanks, Shell! The wait until Monday was killing me! The Hitchcocks are great news. Ace in the Hole is Billy Wilder, right? I had the dvd version CC put out a few years back, great film! I am unfamiliar with the others, I will go do some reading up on them now.

I don't think he was stating what was announced because they will be announced Monday...

...unless I totally misread your post!

Shit. I was all excited. I thought he somehow got wind of the upcoming releases. When people post their predictions they usually preface it with "my predictions for August..."

So which is it Shell?

Based on the NY Times article from a week or two ago, there may be some others that were not listed by him that actually will be announced.

people really need to get better at SAYING "These are my predictions for that month"

Otherwise a lot of us are assuming they have some exclusive info...

Any word on how come there has not been any animation in the collection (excluding LD)? Is it just a rights issue or do you think that Criterion is not interested in trying to acquire any?

One would think that whatever title it is it would sell really well. I think a lot of people would buy it just because it would be the only animated title in the collection

I would LOVE to see Criterion get Akira back again. Disney already releases a quality product, and almost everyone knows the Disney brand...not everyone knows, or has seen Akira (or any other anime for that matter).

What do you say Criterion....

I was not specifically talking about them trying to acquire just Akira, but there are several animated films that are outside of Disney or Ghibli that they could go for

The link that was posted for that article asked me to login so I did not get to read it. Which titles were mentioned?

Precisely!

My dog is named Ronin! Anyways, give me a break. There is uncharted territory out there for us all. I will be seeing it though if it is indeed being released in August. I am down for all of Shell's listed titles, too bad I won't be able to get them from the sale in July (wishful thinking).

So you're going to assume we know what we're talking about unless we specifically say we're just talking out our asses?

I've got a better idea...

Anyone reading a few pages back in the thread would've read CC's post about announcements being on Monday.

Ace in the hole is one of my favorite CC DVD's. (The folded "newspaper" included was priceless) The DVD looked pretty sweet so I would think that a BD upgrade should be a no brainer for fans of B. Wilder and K. Douglas.

I was really hoping that the Cul-de-sac talk was true.

Big KD fan and huge BW fan but for some reason Ace in the Hole didn't really do it for me. I've only seen it once but I was very surprised by my 'eh' reaction to it.

(Don't get me wrong, I'll still buy it)

Great, I bet I threw off the search function with this post for this thread.

Glad I got my wish for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas to be released by Criterion!
Bob Le Flambeur is actually OOP right now, but I see a LOT of films in your list that I would LOVE to see get the BD treatment from Criterion.

Is it safe to assume that there is a good chance that all of the in-print Criterion DVDs that do not have a BD release will some day get one?

To be honest, I would really like to see Criterion get back a lot of their old spines from the Laser Disc days. Many of these movies have not been released on BD and most probably never will be. Some of them have non-Criterion dvd releases and even some in print Criterion DVDs have non-Criterion BD releases...it makes me wonder why Criterion didn't do the upgrade themselves. I assume because of licensing issues, but if they already have the DVD....
