Haha, yeah, I know. I usually feel good about blind-buying Criterions though. I'm rarely ever disappointed.

I've been pretty lucky too. I've bought a couple I'm not entirely crazy about but with the possible exception of Howard's End I'm glad I have them to go back to. And even Howard's End was a good film, I'm just not sure I'll ever watch it again.

Yeah, I see what you mean. While I love my Criterions, there's a few that I've only seen once or twice, where I'm not sure if I'll have the desire to watch them again, like Red Desert or Close-up. Either way, I like having them around. I do have multiple Criterions that I watch constantly like 400 Blows and Paths and SSOS.

The only blind buy I regret was Army of Shadows, just couldn't get into this movie, yet I love Melville's other work.

I actually liked Army of Shadows a little more than Le Cercle Rouge, but they're both pretty rad.

I much preferred Le Cercle Rouge to be honest, but Le Samourai is head and shoulders above both in my opinion.

I think I might have to agree with you on that one. Hoping for a Blu-ray release of that somewhere down the road soon.

I just finished Kes and it definitely goes into the 'excellent blind buy' pile.

One minor quibble - I know separate English and English SDH subs seem redundant with an English language film but this was definitely one of those cases where English was a foreign language. I would have very much appreciated straight English subs without the SDH content.

What a great freaking film though. I kept waiting for it to get manipulative or melodramatic but it never went too far. Not being beaten over the head or talked down to was a nice change of pace.

Anyone know when Criterion is going to release the Blu Ray edition of the Last Days of Disco, considering it was a recently DVD release?

Love that film.

I thought Kes was a fantastic film as well. Without the subs I wouldn't have caught about 40% of the dialogue so you raise a valid point.

I was raised on PBS and used to live in the UK and even I needed to turn the subs on at one point.

Also agree Kes is a great film, but probably made me cry more than any other film in my adult life. Brutal.

Hey Kids, some bad news on The Leopard:

Item Under Review

While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here. (Thanks for the tip!)

We're working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

I haven't checked to see if any other Criterion blu-rays are facing this or not. Good thing my order shipped before this happened.

If you ever want to sell it, or trade it for Red Desert, drop me a PM!

I think I'd go with Le Cercle Rouge over Le Samourai, but I certainly agree that Army of Shadows is much tougher to get into, but I still enjoy watching it.

So apparently Amazon had a flux with their Diabolique shipments, and won't be able to send my copy until next week when they ship it with my pre-order of The Great Dictator. It was supposed to come on Tuesday, naturally. Looks like I have to get Pale Flower so that I have something to watch this week then.

Thanks for the heads up. I received my copy of The Loepard but I have not yet opened it. Does anyone know why/what the issue is causing Amazon to stop shipping these?

That is odd because u can still choose release date delivery to recieve it Tuesday. My preorder along with Pale Flower finally went into shipping soon status late this afternoon.
