I watched Pale Flower last night and it was pretty enjoyable. I thought I'd like it more, but it still was an entertaining movie. The quality from Criterion really impressed me, where the blacks and whites came out in a very rich detail. I don't recommend blind-buying, but definitely give it a chance.

Definitely Island of Lost Souls. Wouldn't there have to be at least two wacky animals for it to be cat people? Maybe they'll upgrade The Most Dangerous Game while they're at it. Love the '30s horror.

Hey rkish (and anyone else who cares), all of the Vigo films are available either at YouTube or Archive.org if you want to sample them.
THANKS Joe!

I just watched The Times of Harvey Milk last night. What a GREAT documentary about an amazing person! The directors did a fantastic job with the interviews. Sally Gearhart's explanation of the feelings of rioters after Dan White got hand slapped for the assassination just felt so honest... because it was. I caught this on cable last night... and am now ordering it on blu. It's definitely something I will watch several times.

Which would be VERY nice for a heavy-restoration movie that's barely even seen the light of VHS.
(The panther-girl plot was very heavily pre-code for its time, which ups the ante for getting a "historical" uncut restoration, if they can.)

Then again, "panther", "female"...Oh, the Pink Panther movies, that'd be a nice change.

About as much chance as they have of doing "Dominion: the Exorcist Prequel"--
Geez, I'd forgotten Schrader had done Cat People before I saw that movie...

(Besides, Universal still owns Natassja's version. And Universal don't let go of its horror, even the 80's ones. They're still putting this one out on their own disks, and no one knows why.)

The black cat could mean they're restoring Shaft. The frilly undergarment is a bit of a curve ball though. And good luck to us figuring it out. He's a complicated man and noone understands him but his woman.

Apparently there's word from the Rainer Werner Fassbinder Foundation that Criterion is working on the US DVD (and hopefully a blu-ray!) of Welt Am Dreht. Supposedly by the end of the year.

Well, we all know the world is not full of Harvard U graduates, but to randomly (and blatantly) pick out reviews from people who may not be the brightest, or who can't write well, and make fun of them is just awful. As an English teacher for years, some of my best students were poor writers, and I guess I'm speaking from the standpoint of someone who can look past that...these people on criterionforum make me sick. Especially after all the other things I've heard about them and their obnoxious ways.

One or two is funny, but 90+ pages???

You didn't get the memo? They are all Intellectually superior and it is their duty to make fun of any opinion they do not agree with. Otherwise their superiority would erode and they would lose their amazing obnoxious powers.

Technically Universal also owns IOLS which is a horror movie that's being leased to Criterion. Even though it's really a Paramount, and unless Uni has something in store for Dracula and Frankenstein this October, IOLS will be the first Universal Classic Monster movie (going by the VHS collection) to see the light of BD.
