Doesn't make sense to me either but someone posted it over on htf.com. Like I said I can't access netflix.com from work that's why I asked if someone here could check. I should have been more clear in my post, my bad.

Miramax Content Deal

Hi. Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer, here. We’re very pleased that beginning next month, an incredible range of Miramax films will be available for our U.S. members to watch instantly. Among the many award-winning, fan favorite and commercially successful movies are: "Bad Santa," "Chasing Amy," "Cinema Paradiso," "Clerks," "Cold Mountain," "The English Patient," "From Dusk Till Dawn," "Good Will Hunting," "Kill Bill Volumes" I and II, "Muriel’s Wedding," "The Piano," "Pulp Fiction," "Reindeer Games," "Shakespeare in Love," and many of the "Halloween," "Scary Movie," "Scream" and "Spy Kids" movies.

We are delighted that U.S. Netflix members will be able to watch instantly all of these great movies and remain committed to constantly improving our already incredibly wide-ranging selection of films and TV shows. Enjoy!

Ted

AFAIK, Miramax's distribution deal is with Lionsgate...

I'll post a link if I find it

We could always register 100 new email addresses with Twitter. Yes Criterion's mean that much to me!

You really think the studio (Fox Searchlight) will license it if it's contention for multiple Oscars (somewhat likely)?

For Kinski, obviously. But for the film, the original version is far superior (even though i'm a big fan of Paul Schrader). Just for the record, the original is not "Val Lewton's" as some people wrote... Lewton was the producer, the film was directed by Jacques Tourneur - one of the great directors of all time, whose films deserve the C treatment.

I hope this is true!

Most people just refer to all of those particular movies as 'Val Lewtons' Since he had so much to do with the creation, production and end result of those movies. Its just as much the producers movie, if not more so, then the director, cinematographer, editor, writer etc..Especially when you are talking about Lewton who had his hands in every level of production, but I get your point.

Seeing as Martin Scorsese is a huge film preservationist and given his confessed love for the Lewton movies. It would be awesome to see some of those movies in HD along with the Martin Scorsese narrated 'Val Lewton: The Man in the Shadows' documentary. I think Warner Brothers owns the rights though.

I'm going with Paul Schrader's CAT PEOPLE; It fits the criteria of what Criterion releases. It is quirky and has cult following, they have a good working relationship with Schrader and they release quite a few Universal titles. Kinski turns into a panther and wears a slip that is like the one in the drawing

so I'm looking at Twitter--does anyone think there will be anything else today other than the Malick promotion?
still a bit confused about this "flash sale"
btw: I remember in 2006 Warner hinted at HD DVD/blu-rays of the Val Lewton's at the end of the year.
wonder what happened to that?

It was supposed to be 50% off of list price on in-stock merchandise at Criterion.com.

Some people were able to order pre-orders at the sale price during a brief window.

A lot of people also complained about the price being 50% off of list rather than Criterion's normal discounted selling price, and so at some point it became 50% off of the regular daily selling price.
aww man that's awesome, wish I would have known about it haha
