All this talk about Chaplin makes me angry.
It's like than W.C. Fields will always be second to Chaplin.

I enjoy W.C. Fields but he is not as friendly for modern audiences compared to Chaplin and Keaton, that is why he is not as mention.

Yea, me too...according to the law (don't know how it works with online vendors), doesn't the advertised price have to be honored, regardless of the mistake??

Mine was too. It's great when retailers honour their mistakes but one shouldn't be annoyed when they decide not to. Everyone makes mistakes on the job.

What gets ridiculous is when people scream murder when they are unable to buy that LOTR trilogy set for $7 even when its clear that there was a mistake made, just like in this case.

In other news, just got all my sets from the Amazon sale.

Well lucky for everyone I'm not screaming murder. I understand "mistakes" happen, however, if I made a mistake at either of my jobs, and someone else could potentially benefit from it, then good for the customer. It's just good business. Clearly they're making money off the, as they said in the email, millions of items listed on their site.

But oh well...life goes on, right?

Great pic, by the way!

My post wasn't exactly directed to you. Sorry if you understood it was. I just picked your words and talked about how I feel about some individuals that when this kind of thing happens make a huge deal and even threaten companies with prosecutions and such.

Of course this isn't a huge deal because it isn't a "popular mainstream" title. If it was, I bet with you that we already had a huge thread in the Bargain section on how Amazon sucks and how this is illegal... blah blah Then on the other hand make the most to scam the company like some did with the Deal of the Week Twilight Zone "wording".

If you expect ethical treatment from a business you should be prepared to be an ethical customer in return.

I am an ethical customer. I shop from Amazon all the time and pay what they ask. I actually don't think anything I did was unethical.

No problem, I didn't think it was. I was just saying...

I also didn't realize the fiasco with other mistakes that had been made in the past. I can see me being "unethical" (for Joe Dalek) if I searched around only for these things, and only ordered mistakenly priced items, and then demanded to take legal action when the prices weren't honored...then perhaps I could be labeled as such.

But I suspect you know there was never meant to be a $1 price, and by trying to take advantage of that makes things grey.

Any argument supporting a complaint about them not "honoring" the price is ironic to me. Since it was very obviously a mistake (you can pretend you just innocently stumbled on to this amazing deal, but be honest), the "honorable" thing to do would have been to alert Amazon to the mistake rather than trying to take advantage of it, wouldn't it?
Yea yea yea, if only everyone in the world were as ethical as you, this world would be a better place.

I value my time too much to waste it fighting over a obvious blunder.

Just a general question. You can take from it whatever you would like, but that is all it was. Basically asking if any of the "however many people ordered this DVD at $1" would have a leg to stand on if they threatened.

This obviously didn't just affect me.

Well...here is the list of the "dreaded 26" Criterion NetFlix streams going away on/after May 26:

1.) Harlan County USA
2.) Au Revoir Les Enfants
3.) Mon Oncle
4.) Knife in the Water
5.) Rat Catcher
6.) La Jetee
7.) Children of Paradise
8.) Eyes Without a Face
9.) The Thief of Bagdad
10.) A Nos Amors
11.) Beauty and the Beast
12.) Hearts and Minds
13.) The Spirit of the Beehive
14.) Burden of Dreams
15.) Shoot the Piano Player
16.) Ballad of a Soldier
17.) Sans Soleil
18.) Amarcord
19.) The Virgin Spring
20.) La Strada
21.) Grey Gardens
22.) Branded to Kill
23.) Bed and Board
24.) Solaris
25.) Black Orpheus
26.) Lord of the Flies

Those that I've had a chance to watch completely are bolded...those in intalics (Mon Oncle) I haven't watched the complete film yet.

Any suggestions which one(s) to check out next?

HURRY UP! The clock is ticking...

Something from this. If your getting Beauty and the Beast, wait until the blu-ray. Burden of Dreams if your into Herzog/Kinski. I believe Branded to Kill is getting an upgrade, so wait off if you want. I didn't add La Strada, but I have seen TCM show that like twice in the last 3-4 months anyways.

I'd say watch Knife in the Water and Shoot the Piano Player. Branded to Kill also, if you don't want to wait until an upgrade.

We shall see if the hype is warranted. At this point you don't like the buzz it's getting because you don't care for the filmmaker (and haven't seen Tree of Life).

We'll see in a few weeks when it hits art houses here in the states.

Let's not make this film out to be Inception (hype not warranted, imo) just yet.
