Some of 'em weren't half bad

Thanks for the Scorsese tip, added it to my NetFlix queue.

Anyone else going to have a sci-fi double header with 2001 and Solaris sometime soon? I'm setting aside a night for this 5 hour odyssey sometime soon

I almost fell asleep reading that

(I am dying to get my hands on Solaris, though)

Well, no, only *some* of the Emanuelle films were. He's referring to the ones made by Joe D'Amato, which were all ITALIAN productions. You really should do your research before correcting somebody.

Today I received Summer Hours and Days of Heaven blu-rays which I recently ordered from Amazon.

However, when I opened the cardboard box I noticed the plastic shrink wrap covering the Summer Hours blu-ray had an approximately 1.5 inch long rip in the middle of the backside of the case. I carefully placed the damaged blu-ray back into the cardboard box and quickly resealed the box before anymore damage could happen to the delicate shrink wrap. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of the damage before I resealed the cardboard box.

I'm at a loss about what to do next. Should I email or make a phone call to Amazon's customer service to demand an immediate replacement? I'm hoping the replacement blu-ray is delivered by Saturday afternoon, since I had made specific plans to watch the film Saturday evening.

Amazon have amazing customer service, contact them and tell them it'd damaged and they'll send you a new one in exchange for the damaged one.

If you email them the transaction will take a few days which still gives you time to watch it on Saturday before you send it back.

The thing about Italians and Italian Cinema is. And it's not so much the Movies in General but it's the Actors who give a resemblance of what Italians are or how they want to be. Most important in the history is the actor Il grand TOTO no other actor has been as loved by the old Italians as him. And it's the one they say there will be no other like him. And sure not forget the impact Marcello Mastroianni had on Italians sometimes that wish to be as cool as him on the other hand he has allways problems with Women etc. It's a mixture of the Italian been chaotic, due to his passion and allways having troubles by his own fault. But sometimes you get closer to what Italians are by dissecting their actors and their roles. This also goes for Giancarlo Giannini, Ugo Tognazzi, Vittorio Gassman and even the also more wishfull to be thinking Adriano Celentano, allways been like the coolness they want to represent.

Really? I watched part of it today and found it to be pretty satisfying. It appears Criterion didn't have the best materials to work with due to the appearance of some scratches and print damage, but its a pretty solid Criterion transfer. The black and white scenes in particular look superb. I'd put it on the same level as Blow Out, with the added bonus of being even more visually sumptuous.

Default Question about Criterion movies

I have never seen any movie released by criterion unless you want to count Benjamin Button as i do own that on blu-ray

Im interested in The Thin Red Line but i noticed it comes in this weird clear case like a PS3 game, which i dont really like

is the case thickness the same as a standard blue blu-ray case so maybe i could just buy it and throw it on a regular case?

Criterion cases are thicker so you would have to trim the artwork to fit a regular case.

Regular US Blu-ray artwork = 26.5 mm
Regular UK artwork = 27.0 mm
Regular Criterion artwork (clear case) = 27.3 mm

Is it really that weird? Does it have special weirdness, because of it's missing color?
Are not the blue colored ones weirder?

Why would anyone want to go from an awesome looking Criterion case to throw the artwork in an ugly BD blue tinted case. OUCH.

why don't you just watch it saturday and then return it to them on monday for a new copy? they will not charge you as long as they get back the damaged one.

You certainly do not want a weird case. I am afraid, I don't think Criterion is for you then....

I was joking around.

Personally, I like the clear Criterion cases better than the standard blu-ray case. If I had a personality disorder such as OCD, I would probably switch out all my blue colored blu-ray cases for clear cases to match the clear Criterion cases.

Wow, the last 2 pages has me crackign up! I've actually seen those pics before on another thread. I believe he was burned alive at the stake for his blasphemous actions against the Criterion Collection packaging.

In other Criterion related news, my copy of Solaris is "out for delivery" from the PO and should be here in a bit! I'd love to watch this tonight if I am not sleepy...I know it's quite lengthy!!
