Thanks, Shell. That's exactly the kind of stuff I like to read on this forum. Please post a comment, as well, when you're actually watching it so that we know you're watching it.

Criterion tweeted: We've Got a new One Scene coming to Criterion.com, stay tuned.

Anyone know what that means?

Maybe its just one scene from a movie and we all get to guess which one it is. And it will undoubtedly be a future release. However, I could be 150% wrong on that one.

Those come out every Tuesday now, according to Criterion. Last week's "3 Reasons" was late due to the holiday.

It is a new feature that they recently started on their website. The first one was about Solaris:

I don't think so. Japanease are obsessed with region coding.

Offtopic: Estonia is currently the hottest place in Europe so I decided to go to beach today. Now I'm burnt from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet. I don't think I want to go outside for the next few days so I'll stay home and watch films instead. I've got some great Blu-rays piled up (Peeping Tom, Bunuel/Dali, etc.).

Eureka is a company based in the UK -- and quite a few of the MoC titles have been region free. It really depends on what sort of distribution rights they have.

I know that, but most of the Japanease licensors demand region locking. Same goes for the Italians.

One can only assume that they'd do their best to release the Blu-rays region free, as it opens up their sales demographic. I only mentioned this because Tokyo Sonata, another MoC Japanese release, was region free.

I'm guessing the One Scene will be for the film buffs analyzing the Director's Vision through one key scene, while the Three Reasons, will be, well, reasons to buy it/have heard of it.

And Three is always better than One.

It opens up the sales demographic for the company who licensed the film in question. It closes up opportunities for the license owners to sell the license to other regions (not completely, but it definitely becomes a less valuable license).

So thus the logical extension is that a Japanese license owner would want more money for the license if the releasing company wants to do a region-free release. It would then be up to the releasing company to decide whether spending the extra money for a region free release would be off-set by additional global sales.

This is generally not going to be the case.

(All as I understand it--I'm certainly no business man.)

Take off the "Le" and you'll find all of them. Not sure why typing out the whole title only gives you one of the Studio Canal Collection releases, though.

That's odd. It shows up if you do a search for Criterion but not by title.
