Just got all 16 Criterion Blu-rays from DeepDiscount today -- so despite all the past negative experiences, they did quite well by me! I ordered on Tuesday morning, and everything arrived today well packaged and in perfect condition. One order contained 14 individual titles + BBS set in a box with a good amount of stuffing paper. The second was a single Blu-ray in a bubble mailer (seemingly shrink-wrapped) and was also in perfect shape. I used the "Free Shipping" option, so I have to say, I'm a happy camper considering I wasn't expecting them to be here so quickly.

YES! Finally we get those Pasolini films. More Kubrick and Cimino is fine by me as well. I have no idea how they saw those though.

There are definitely some good titles. But yeah, it might be worth taking the list with a grain of salt, because it us pretty tough to see. Of course, some have been predicted for a while.

Those two? Gay porn filmed on a backyard.
![]() (I'd like to see a real version of Canterbury done someday, maybe for big-budget TV minseries, but without the dopey gaping amateur actors, gratuitous "pizzaboy" shots of young twinks eyeing each other, and scenes that trail off in no particular direction.) Satyricon isn't much better, but Roger Ebert makes the point that it's intentionally showing how Rome crumbled under its own self-indulgence, and, quote, "demonstrates why the '68 Summer of Love would never have lasted anyway." Spartacus, of course, was always meant to happen once Criterion got the MGM Kubricks ![]() But to those curious about Heaven's Gate, don't say we didn't warn you...Not all famous flops are "underappreciated". (Imagine watching the Kevin Costner "Wyatt Earp", only........slower.) Last edited by EricJ; 06-25-2011 at 03:40 AM. |

I love this film. Kristofferson, Isabelle Huppert, Walken, and John Hurt are all outstanding in this film. It also contains one of the most beautiful scenes ever, when Kristofferson and Huppert dance in a town hall. The film is long, but it is lovely. |

I need some help:
I just tried to watch "Pale Flower" on my region free Dyon Horizon player, but the disc won't stop spinning. It can't load the disc and play it. I tried other titles like "People on Sunday" and "Blow Out", they played without a problem. Looking at the disc of Pale Flower I can't find any visible defects. Any ideas? |

To those curious about Heaven's Gate, I'm not warning, I'm recommending.
I love this film. Glad to see some love this for masterful film. Of course, I'm talking about the Director's Cut and not the shortened theatrical version. I'd love a BD version someday but have resigned myself to accepting the low quality dvd. Robin Wood's essay in HOLLYWOOD FROM VIETNAM TO REAGAN is wonderful and will help many to appreciate the construction of what I consider to be Cimino's best film. The dance scene is reminiscent of the wedding scene in DEER HUNTER, imbued with a sublime visual grace and realism. Hypnotizing. |

Oh yes! I thought I was nuts thinking Fichet was a lot like Columbo! I'm sad now, I loved him in The Great Race, Murder by Death, The Princess Bride, and The In-Laws!
