Hi,

Thanks for your answer.
But will Benjamin Button be region locked just like all Criterion Blu-ray or region free just like all Paramount's blu-ray ?

Thanks again

Not sure yet... we'll see if anyone else posts news on it. It is up to what ever deal Paramount and Criterion did for the distribution of the title so it could be either.

Ahh, this is good news.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a great film, and I cannot wait to add it to my Blu-ray library.

My first thought was "it probably will be" but considering paramount is directly involved there's a good chance it won't be.

It's kind of weird that it's not on their Blu-ray coming soon web page yet.

I'm pretty happy for any Criterion release, so when they do a "main-stream" movie it's like an added bonus (or it could be seen as a negative).
Personally, I think they do it just to get their name out there, sort of a covert form of advertising. They release a major movie every couple years, Life Aquatic, Royal Tennenbaums, Chasing Amy, Rushmore, The Rock, Armageddon, Silence of the Lambs...
If you think about it, Criterion does NO ADVERTISING for their company. Everything is word of mouth. Which is pretty incredible. You never see full (or partial) page ads in magazines. No commercials. No previews outside of there websites write ups. It's pretty amazing in today's market.
After reading the article in Home Theater Magazine (mentioned here in this thread a few pages ago) I was even more impressed that they put out such high quality products when there's only 35 employees (Including the presidents). Maybe that's there secret. We put all of our man-power on to on film project at a time.
Anyhoo, never got to see Ben Button in theaters so I was going to bind-buy it anyways. The fact that it's a Criterion Blu is just icing on the cake.
Maybe this will be where they debut there new Blu-ray cases...

I watched it (Days Of Heaven) when it first came out. I was disappointed near the start to see some narly-looking misquito noise (around the people on top of the train at sunset), but other than that one instance I didn't really notice any problems. All in all very nice PQ/AQ, for A DVD. Definitely would like to see it in HD.

anyone else notice that the date on the front of the box image is 2008?

I'm assuming this is just stock artwork they release, but just caught me as a little strange

That's the official art. 2008 refers to the year of the original theatrical release.

I loved the first half of TCCOBB but the second disappointed me. I'm sure it could grow on me with more viewings. =]

I had a feeling the "Criterion Edition" was simply gossip. It doesn't make any sense. I read the listing of extras and nothing rang out "Criterion" to me (where was the detailed explanation of specs and extras, the interviews, and most obviously, the essay booklet?). If Paramount allowed Criterion to take a first-run BD slot for TCCOBB, that would have meant Paramount would have lost a significant overall revenue share on a film that probably didn't see the greatest theatrical profit margin in the first place.

I also feel better knowing Criterion didn't stoop to first-run American studio-backed films for their catalog. Let the regular BDs come out first, and, if in 5-10 years or so TCCOBB warrants a Criterion release, let them acquire the rights for a definitive home release.

who says it still isn't criterion..? if you're going solely by the current amazon cover art that lacks the criterion logo that means nothing as it can and does change frequently (la confidential was a prime example).

Amazon has all the tech specs though, including listing "Paramount" as a studio and the item's ASIN number. Regardless, if this IS a Criterion release, it would be the first time in years that Criterion.com is missing a listing, especially given that they've put up their May/June DVDs and BDs.

And as I've stated above, it would be the first time that Criterion have acquired first-run home release rights to an American studio-backed film.

Edit: Reflecting on this, the only way I can see this being a Criterion release is if PHE acquired the license to use the Criterion name, and why would they do that???

None of it makes any sense to me. Maybe I'll e-mail Criterion tomorrow.

i see what you are saying, but you should definitely not go just by amazon (who frequently posts incorrect information). go by the official press releases announced on this site and all the other major movie ones.

Haha, no DigitalBits has already reported a DVD AND Blu-Ray release for this title coming from Criterion.

I got The 400 Blows today and watched the 1st 15 mins or so. It looks really good to me so far especially for a 50 year old film. Interesting that the volume label on the Blu-ray is "El Norte"
