USA Regarding Criterion

Criterion's releases are top-notch. No argument on that matter. Still, I'd like to see some bigger films remastered under it's label, and believe such efforts would only help the company with the general public. Film aficionados, of course, know about Criterion's greatness.

I'd like to see them release additional Kubrick titles, as well as, Lucas, Spielberg, and Nolan. It's a shame those latter three directors have no Criterion releases, when Bay has two films. That's just my two cents.

Funny, I sold those 2 together to someone and the other by itself.

They probably won't be able to afford the license to Lucas, Spielberg, Nolan, and the rest of Kubrick films. Plus all of their movies have good enough Blu releases already. Let Criterion concentrate on films that don't.

+1. I like Criterion as much as the next guy but I don't see the point of just having these films under the label when bigger labels (often) treat those films perfectly well, but wouldn't touch loads of the smaller films Criterion release.

Which is basically what you said...

It would be fantastic if Criterion released La Haine on blu...any chance?

I watched the following criterions recently: The Night of the Hunter, Seventh Seal, Fish Tank, M, Videodrome, Summer Hours, Wings of Desire and Seven Samurai. I've never seen any of them before (I know, I know) but I absolutely loved all of them, especially Seven Samurai and The Night of the Hunter.

Modern Times, Hunger and Diabolique are on their way, I can't wait to watch them.

Knowing nothing of your tastes, it's hard to say. You'll find people here that will argue for any one of these. I happened to go with Diabolique, Solaris, and The Great Dictator, but that's just based on my preferences.

Does anyone know if criterion has the rights for Wes Anderson's Rushmore? I would love to see that or The Royal Tenenbaums released soon And one more question pertaining to Wes Anderson, would it be safe to blind buy Darjeerling limited? I like most all his movies but I've heard mixed things.

Yes they do, and if you like Wes Anderson's films, you like Darjeerling Limited.

I'd like to see Repo Man enter the collection.

I'd like to see The Umbrellas of Cherbourg do so as well (still haven't seen very much of it at all (a few minutes), now just waiting for a blu option before watching the rest of it), hope the wishful thinking going around a little while back turns into reality.

Also, waiting for the Antonioni titles to get blu upgrades, the sooner the better, and likewise for In The Mood For Love.

And whenever Welt Am Dreht finally makes it into the collection, I will be glad to see that announced too.

(Look forward to Brazil getting a Criterion blu redo as well, great film, but no hurry.)

"The Magician is my favorite Bergman film. I love the lush B&W photography. (it looks just about perfect in HD)"

100% agree. The B&W looks beautiful, plus it's my favorite Bergman film also (out of only five I've seen).

As far as upgrades to Blu. I'm patiently waiting for The Vanishing, Naked Lunch, Jigoku, Throne of Blood, The Blob, Wild Strawberries, The Virgin Spring, Carnival of Souls, and The Monsters and Madmen set. Among about 100 others.

Considering Criterion has Foreign Correspondent from Warner, I would say Blow-Up is more than likely (as is Badlands).

What do you all think of the Stagecoach disc? I've never seen the film, but am thinking of buying it during the upcoming Barnes and Noble sale.

The Darjeeling Limited is one of my favorite films! I just watched it last night, in fact!

I watched my copy just recently. Was very happy with it.
The print is obviously a bit damaged, but I think they did a pretty good job of cleaning it up.
Fantastic western

I love Wes Anderson and I do own and like Darjeeling Limited, but I think it's fair to say it's one of his lesser efforts. Personally, I'd rank them like this:

Rushmore
The Royal Tenenbaums
Bottle Rocket
Fantastic Mr. Fox
The Darjeeling Limited
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (in fairness, I haven't watched this one since it's theatrical release, so I probably need to pop it in and give it another shot)

I love Stagecoach. If you like classic westerns, I can't imagine you would be disappointed. It also has a very nice package of extras.
