Enjoy the use of your arm & leg for at least another 6 months. Kino will be releasing the blu-ray next year.

Re: Foreign Correspondent

Warner had the rights from Castle Hill but I think they lost distribution for it and a few others including Stagecoach which is now Criterion. Warner is the only studio that does not loan out films.

It's very nice. It's not a spotless restoration but they did a great job given what they had to work with. While watching it I thought 'yeah, they did okay, I guess' but when I played the trailer I was immediately reminded of just how chewed up every other copy I'd ever seen really was.

Joe Dalek was asking for feedback on "People on Sunday"...I would say that we both agree it's another unexpected great effort by Criterion. By "unexpected", I mean, as far as seeing a great/unusual silent film like this get released. I would have given MoC a chance of releasing this...but not Criterion. Very pleased!

I might even give "The Music Room" a shot...

Oh yeah, he wanted to know which score to go with.

I'm kind of curious about that too.

Very good news from dvdbeaver and their review of The Music Room. The image comparisons between the older SDVD and the Criterion BD show a substantial improvement in all areas. I love Indian classical music, and have followed it's influence in rock and jazz music of the 1960's and 70's. Looking forward to the 19th.

Fantastic Mr. Fox
The Darjeeling Limited
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (in fairness, I haven't watched this one since it's theatrical release, so I probably need to pop it in and give it another shot)
Let's hijack this thread and annoy the Wes Anderson haters!

I'm not a Wes Anderson hater, but hearing everyone's rankings of one director who has a limited portfolio (He doesn't have that many films, so don't argue that point!) is something that isn't of interest to me. Create a Wes Anderson thread in the Movies/TV forum (or perhaps search for one that is already there)

I'm going to watch "Kiss Me Deadly" tonight, a film I have yet to see.

They lose rights to the titles. And we will see more go OOP.

"Dear Criterion collectors,

Our three least favorite initials: OOP. Since we launched the Criterion Collection more than twenty-five years ago, we’ve endeavored to keep everything we’ve published in print. But despite our efforts to renew rights, we are losing a large group of titles from StudioCanal at the end of March, and we wanted to give you advance notice that our editions will be going out of print. Until we’re out of stock, we will be offering these titles at an additional $5 off on our website. The titles are going to Lionsgate, and we don’t know when they may be rereleased. As ever, we will continue to try to relicense the films so that they can rejoin the collection sometime in the future."

From their website.

I love me some Kiss Me Deadly. It probably has the single most unnerving piece of sound design I've ever heard.

As for people talking about Anderson being off topic, all of his films save one is "in the collection", and that places this soon to fizzle out of its own accord discussion as the 1001st least off topic discussion in a couple pages.

Or should we go back to correcting each other's typos?

so Army of Shadows should be an easy blind buy for someone that enjoys Melville more than most new-wavers and enjoys political films?

I would def. recommend it. I did not blind buy it exactly, I watched a few minutes of it on netflix streaming and decided to purchase it. I think that you'll enjoy it.

Considering how many Anderson films are in the Criterion Collection, I find this dismissal of the topic to be petty.
Discussion about directors and their films is common practice in this forum, whether it is Godard, Melville, or even Michael Bay.
If no one is interested, the topic will die off.

Army of Shadows is definitely worth picking up. It was a blind buy for me, but I really like Melville and was not disappointed. It gives you an in-your-face feel for how dangerous it was to be in the resistance, how careful you had to be against the Germans, the Vichy, and even your own comrades. There were a lot of French collaborators with the Germans, something the movie does not shy away from presenting. The style of the film is like "war noir".

Which is why I can't believe I was on the fence there for awhile about buying Leon Morin, Priest. It's Melville, and I'm in for the blind buy.

We were just discussing a director that has all but one of his films released under CC. I don't see why we should start a whole new thread about that. It's more interesting than constant asking of when the sale starts, complaining that Bay is in the collection, etc.

I would rate his films like this:
Rushmore
Bottle Rocket
Fantastic Mr. Fox
The Royal Tenenbaums
(I haven't seen Darjeeling limited or Life Aquatic yet)
