It would be nice to see Sid & Nancy back in the collection. Been negligent so far about checking out his other stuff. Repo Chick, hmmm...
Repo-Chick is perhaps the greatest let down since Superman Returns.

Sweet! Hope no one holds me to my statement, I figured it would be released sooner or later as it is Kurosawa and did win an Academy Award.

Except for the 3 in the mail, and the "4" pre-orders, I've finally watched all of my Criterion BDs, and have ranked, best to "worst" them as such if anyone cares. I broke out the BBS set by individual film, but kept Monterey as one:

Head - 10/10 - total bias
Black Narcissus - 10/10
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - 10/10
Charade - 10/10
The Leopard - 9.5/10
Bigger Than Life - 9.5/10
Five Easy Pieces - 9.5/10
The Complete Monterey Pop Festival - 9.5/10 (Should have had more Buffalo Springfield)
The King of Marvin Gardens - 9/10
Sweet Smell of Success - 9/10
Paths of Glory - 9/10
Senso - 8.5/10
Au revoir les enfants - 8.5/10
Diabolique - 8.5/10
Topsy-Turvy - 8/10
Howards End - 8/10
The Last Picture Show - 8/10
Easy Rider -7.5/10
Broadcast News - 7/10
Drive, He Said - 6.5/10
A Safe Place - 5.5/10

I'm sure I've stirred the pot, and will cause outrage with this post, but it may help some people decide on films for the upcoming sale. They are all fantastic films, it's just that some have more rewatching power than others, and I have a total bias towards the Monkees.

does anyone else have a problem with the DVDBeaver site? Sometimes film pages just won't load for me in Google Chrome.

The HD picture is not the best without strong source material. I kinda expected this would be the case. But I'm looking forward to the opera soundtrack in remastered HD audio.

The revelation is "The Music Room", which has a stunning HD transfer according to DVDBeaver's captures.

I wasn't really interested in The Music Room, but those captures look amazing on DVDBeaver. "Blah, blah, blah, DVDBeaver is unreliable, blah, blah, blah."

Yeah. The Music Room (and most Ray) have ridiculously bad US releases (if any at all), so while Criterion's looks great, even a merely passable transfer would have been incredible in comparison.

I'm really excited to see the film again because the terrible DVD is still fresh in my mind. Plus that Ray documentary sounds awesome.

Presumably, the most likely Criterion DVDs to get the BD treatment are their bestsellers. Do we have a realible list of the best selling Criterions? Are sales figures for individual releases published anywhere? Would love to know the chances of my favourite Criterions making it to blu

I watched People on Sunday yesterday with the Elana Kats-Chernin score. After seeing the film with both scores I must say that I strongly prefer the Mont Alto track. The silent-era score works much better with the images on the screen, and I was surprised how much more I enjoyed the film the first time while using the default track. (The Mont Alto score just felt correct IMO)

It's pretty reliable as far as I'm concerned, even though the caps tend to be a little on the soft side for some reason. But when they look great, chances are the actual image will also look great, probably even better.

It reminds me of the stellar transfer for The Magician. Looks good.

Just watched Ride with the Devil for the first time. This is another movie I just couldn't convince myself to blind buy, and I have to say that was the right move. It was fine, but unremarkable. I have no need to see it again, but nothing bad to say about it.

The movie is very, very pretty so it might be worth it for the eye candy for some. I wish Jeffrey Wright was in more movies, or at least, more good movies. He really is one of the better actors working. And everyone else is good for the most part. Jewel was quite charming and crazy pretty. Rhys-Meyers was creepy, if mannered. But I expect a lot from my westerns and as a film it didn't really feel very real or very dangerous.

I would recommend this as a rental and not a blind buy, what with the sale coming up.

I bought it during the last sale after I watched it on netflix streaming. I loved it. Jeffrey Wright was fantastic. Jewel put me to sleep though. I'd probably give it a rating of 8.5/10.
