Anyone here seen People on Sunday? Debating on picking it up, but would like to get some feedback first.

I hate silent movies normally....but I loved People On Sunday. It has a very light, modern feel to it, especially if you listen with the Kats-Chernin (sp?) score. There's some great cinematography, and it's a really fascinating snapshot of life in Berlin just before WWII.

I really enjoyed People on Sunday. I have to differ with Lemonski on the score though. For me, the film just did not work with the modern sound track. The retro score performed by the Mont Alto orchestra (the BD's default selection by the way) sounded correct and of the time that the film was made. I would bet that the upcoming release of The Phantom Carriage will divide fans even more over which musical score is better suited for that film.

Regardless of the music you choose, People on Sunday is an interesting and insightful snapshot of the Weimar era in Germany. (approx. 1919 to 1934)

Criterion should just sell little stickers of their "C" logo and people can put it in the top left of all their DVDs and blu-rays and pretend they're all Criterion

Can anyone confirm?

Probably how to get replacement cases for older digipak releases, as well as when the next B&N sale is going to be....oh and which movies they ordered and the shipping status of each one. And possibly some Wes Anderson tweets, just so everyone knows what he is up to.

I kid I kid...I'm really hoping for Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn with lenticular cover. Slipcovers are so 2010.

I watched solaris last night, and it is one of the most amazing films Ive seen. This is the most thought provoking movie, no question about it.
What I wanted to mention in this thread, was the ridiculously good looking blu ray this is. I own 7, or something around there, blu ray criterions and none of them are in color, so this being my first criterion colored blu ray movie I was blown away.

I'm going to pick up The 400 Blows before the sale ends. They had it, and several other titles that I am interested in, but I decided to get Naked instead. I just watched Au Revoir Les Enfants, and it's become one of my favorite Criterions. I still need to get The 400 Blows, Broadcast News, and The Magician. I may also get a few more titles before the sale ends.

I just finished Solaris a little while ago. I love closure as much as the next guy but also I really love when films (particularly science fiction films) are content to raise questions without feeling the need to answer them all let alone tie the answers up in pretty little bows.

I'm looking forward to digging into the supplements.

[Show spoiler]Speaking of supplements and trivia and whatnot - all of the text in the credits and film itself used Cyrillic characters except the word Solaris on the side of the rocket which used Latin characters - does anybody know offhand why the characters on the rocket were different?

Hey folks, how many of you have Repulsion? I just ordered it as a blind buy, but I really enjoyed some of Polanski's other works, such as Chinatown, The Fearless Vampire Killers (now that should become a Criterion release), Rosemary's Baby, MacBeth, and The Ninth Gate. The plot looked very interesting.
