It's an amazing film. I'm so glad to finally be able to own a copy.

i know for me personally, sometimes the name of a particular film, or the artwork is what gets me intrigued (or more intrigued) than i was before in a film. it also goes both ways though. for as much praise as The Red Shoes gets, that cover art with that girls face bugs the snot out of me for reason and thus, i have yet to see it because of that.

honesty is the best policy
The cover never did anything for me either, still doesn't, but don't miss this one just because of it. The Red Shoes is a great addition to any blu collection.

I think I'm going to wait...I've already pre-ordered the dual-format BFI of Turksib (now less than 10 pounds after VAT removed). Love flicker, but I think BFI releases will top them. Man, threadcrappin is fun!

I got seven titles for $10 each because the cashier let me use the $8 off $40 coupon plus my $2 member discount which equals $10 off the $19.99 titles which makes it $10 plus tax I also thought about using the $5 off coupon because my total was over $50 because she rang it up all in one transaction which was a surprise but I didn’t want to push it. It sucks because I’m so selective when it comes to owning a movie because it has to have replay value for me and most Criterion titles don’t have it not that their bad movies but most don’t require repeat viewing IMHO. So I just got the seven that I really wanted and stopped even though I had more coupons with me at the store. Wish I had a scanner so I can scan a copy of the receipt but yeah I lucked out.

This is a slightly off-topic comment but I am hoping that all you Criterion fans will toss in your constructive .02 to this Criterion Wishlist thread I just created over in the Wishlist section of the site. I let Jon Mulvaney know of it. This thread seems way too disorganized to be productive (though it is fine in my opinion for general community commentary on the actual releases). Lets make some history

It's good to know other people are affected by the covers as I am. That happened recently for me with the Criterion's "Summer Hours" cover. I saw a bit of the film on DirecTV and it was excellent so I decided to wait and see it on blu ray. Was pleasantly surprised to find it released by Criterion and such a beautifully designed cover! Love the film and the cover!

The Red Shoes cover bugs me too. Felt the same way about 'Chunking Express' but when I finally saw it, I changed my mind about the cover. Love the movie and the cover now.

I blind bought Seven Samurai and unfortunately the packaging cements why I loathe digibooks and digipacks. It's cheap and ugly and there's always a problem with the cardboard getting bent, which mine is full of. The chances of reselling it if I don't like it are slim. I mean, the outer slip is cheap cardboard and not the tough kind that comes with many non-Criteirons, like the Digibook Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. There's no logical reason to have packaging like this when you're paying a premium. As soon as I returned home from purchasing The Last Emperor, I immediately bought the jewel case on Criterion's website.

I still need to get on the 50% sale. I really want to wait for next week so I don't have to make an extra trip for High and Low and Life During Wartime.

Very good article. Glad they listened to you on Island of Lost Souls. Never realized that film never even made it to DVD until now.

I watched The Seventh Seal last night. I had it for over a year and decided to watch it last night. While watching it, it skipped at approx 1hr23min19sec to 1hr30min59sec. I have a 40gb PS3 updated. Has this happened to anyone else? I've never had any problems with any discs except this and Le Mepris.

Great list. Hoping for the top choice, though I don't see it happening.

I just watched Don't Look Now. That really needs to be released from Criterion.

I guess you could try playing from the chapter menu. Sounds like a bad disc.

i've watched my copy about 5 times and have had no issues what-so-ever.

watched Repulsion and Videodrome today. Repulsion was a blind buy, really enjoyed it. i could see a lot of moments that Aronofsky borrowed for Black Swan. Videodrome i had previously seen. looks and sounds phenomenal!

hoping to watch Bottle Rocket tomorrow.

wanted to watch Che today, but i want to watch both parts back to back, so that's gonna get pushed to next weekend
